Great day at the range, humid enough to see vaper trails from rounds going down range. Now turkeys on the range today. Maybe my highest scores to date, have to check progression site.

Glad to hear that you had a great day on the range, we need those days to contrast the frustrating days.

********25yrd scoped entry 9/10/19*******

STRUGL4X'SC,56

Northern California

Anschutz 1411

Skstd +

96-3X,96-3X,95-4X,96-4X,96-2X

Better make this my entry and move on, try as I might I am consistently in the 460's with a few 470's. Shot two eights in this one; holding it together for all 50 shots is indeed a feat. Still I think offhand may be the ultimate sport; can't buy your way up no matter how much you spend.

I'm also stuck in the 460s; above 470 is a rarity.

These targets are hexed. I can shoot the middle out of a simple 2 inch circle, but keeping 10 in the 9 ring is vanishly rare for me.

Did you mean 25 yards (in which case, congrats on an excellent score), or a 50 yard target at which you accidentally fired 50 (in which case, congrats on having the physiology of a statue)?

Jay, David-
These line speak volumes !
Thanks for your insight.
You have both been at this for over 4 years now, thanks for sticking with it.
Good that there are a few things left in this gotta-have-it-now world that offer reward for that kind of long-term dedication.

I can only repeat Cowboy's line: Offhanders are a rare breed.
That is proven by our numbers here- Of the 156,500+ RFC members, ~100 have attempted this match.

My heartfelt thanks to all you dedicated souls who stick with this incredible challenge.
Keep in mind that perfection is there waiting for us, it is achieved every time we set a new personal-best

All the best,
Bob4BVM

Zuki, I have that same problem my friend.
For me, (when my eyes are cooperating) it's all about "taking the 1st Ten; then doing a proper follow-thru, which by the way begins with the trigger squeeze and lasts until the bullet strikes...always guiding the POA at every stage along the way. THese are things I learned from Charlie O, our best-ever shooter here, the only one to shoot 500's. He graciously offered some good coaching advice in his posts in the ...Technique section of this match. I re-read his stuff every one in a while just to recall what IS possible in this particular sport; see his Post#40 on this page: https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forum...=573956&page=3

Cheers,
Bob4BVM

That page is a better and more detailed explanation than I've typically gotten from good shooters in real life. I think many of them have done it well long enough that they forget exactly how they do it well.

Great read. Thanks.

I concur with the comments above about the difficulty of this activity as a test of the shooter rather than the equipment. I've shot a bunch of these over the last several months. If I throw out my high score and my low score, my targets are within an 18 point range. I think that says something about the validity of this test.

********25 YD SCOPE **********9/12/19

SCORE-470-11X
NAME: Purple Bikerr (60)
LOCATION: Blue River Gun Club
GUN: Glenfield Model 60
GUN SETUP: __x__Scope___Irons___Sling
AMMO: CCI Mini-Mags
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 93-2x, 90-2x, 95-2x, 95-3x, 97-2x

This was shot rapid fire, each bull took less than 15 secs. to complete. When the X-hairs were on the 10 ring, I let 'er rip. I did pull a few shots, though. I always do.

Was really, really fun shooting that fast and I am tickled that I shot a decent score.

This is my squirrel-getter gun ( ya know, it does have that squirrel on the stock) and the season starts Sat. I have owned it since new in 1973 when I was 14 yrs. old.
1st gun I ever bought with my own money.

I did replace the crappy factory trigger with a KAT (Kick Azz Trigger) and that alone made a world of difference how I can shoot this gun. Breaks at 17 oz.
