Russia wins Men's 15K Biathlon....

The men's 15K mass-start Biathlon was televised earlier today. A Russian biathlete won the competition.

What rifle was he shooting? I saw mention at one point that the Russians intended to be shooting Russian rifles. Does anyone know if the Russians were shooting Izhmash rifles, or did they shoot Annies?

Also, the camera work was amazing. The video of bullets hitting the targets was tremendous.

American biathelete

I know there was one American in there. He was tenth at one point but fell to like 30 something in the end.

The only competitive American biathlete was racing with the lead pack until the first round of standing shooting. He shot clean through both rounds of prone shooting and was skiing well enough to stick with the lead pack. However, he only hit 2 of 5 targets in the first bank of standing shots. The resulting 3 penalty laps took him out of contention.

I believe there were 40 competitors - only 3 shot clean through the entire race. 2 of those three took home Olympic medals.
