Toz 12

Hi All,

I have just bought sight unseen (except for one photo), a TOZ 12 I think. It has an aperture rear sight , tunnel fore sight and a plain looking stock with a very long fore end and sling swivels. Does anyone else out there have one of these or information about them?

Nothing specific - just other peoples experience with them, how accurate they are etc. I'm in Tasmania and the way the registry works down here it will be about six weeks before I can take posession, so I'm whiling away the time gathering info.

I've been shooting TOZ12 for a long time, first when living in the USSR, then after I've moved to the US and bought TOZ-12 some time in 1990s. If bore is in good condition, it's a real nice shooter, and pretty quite as well with SV ammo due to the long barrel. I've been shooting 3/4" groups at 50 meters from the sand bag with original peep sight, using black steel case .22 russian ammo, and a bit better with match grade ammo. I would think that adding scope will help to improve these results. TOZ-12 was totally reliable, both the one I've shot in the USSR and the one I have now.

Thanks Kortik, I am feeling much better about having bought this rifle after reading your comments and those from other Russians with fond memories of the Toz 12. This is one of the few times I have purchased without research and although I didn't pay much, buying and selling guns down here is such a rigmarole it's a real pain having to dispose of a clunker. I am looking forward to trying it out and will write up my experiences.
