Rifle Identification -- Romanian M69

Log in to see fewer ads
My son-in-law recently acquired a .22 bolt-action rifle that we are trying to identify (sorry, no photos). Description:

There is a groove in the fore stock
There is a recess in the stock to accommodate the bolt knob
The bolt knob is knurled and hollowed out
The magazine is a removable box-type
The rear sight is adjustable and the blade folds
The safety is a swinging Mauser-type

On top of the receiver, immediately in front of the rear sight, are the following markings:
UMC 2
1972
U-2851

Thanks for any help.

Not trying to belabor the obvious but I simply put UMC2 rifle in Google and pushed the magic button.

Is "Google is your friend" a meme?

Got one myself.

Not the prettiest rifle, but this one is a real good shooter. Likes a vigorous bolt cycle, ejection on these can be a little weak.

I mounted an old Bushnell .22 scope on it. Had to undercut the ‘scope groove’ a bit to achieve a solid mount.

A few years back these were fairly common, you could pick them up for abt $100.
