CZ 512 American 22WMR - Best Scope Choice?

Log in to see fewer ads
I just ordered a 512 American in 22WMR. Need a good scope recommendation. All of my favorites are no longer produced (Weaver 3x9x32AO and 4x12x40AO). What's a good replacement.

I already have a set of BKL high rings, but I have noticed that some of the videos on line show rings walking on the 11mm rail....is this a concern, or just improper initial installation.

Thanks in advance!

Unless I need more magnification, my favorite all-around scope for rimfires is the discontinued-but-still-available Weaver Grand Slam 4-16x44. I find it to be a far better scope than the RV-9 (3-9x32 A/O) that I also have.

Here it is on a Scout, which is a smaller gun than your 512.

go with a 3-9x40 and low talley rings, they won't slip, on that gun low rings seem high due to the recievers height over the barrel. high rings will be super high. I had ring slippage, and went to the talley's, that fixed it.

If someone is having trouble with BKL's rings walking they simply need to tighten them down properly, they can be a bit difficult to chinch up that last little bit. If your wife opens the jar lids around the house have her tighten the rings bases...no seriously. Often you'll hear an odd noise when getting that last little bit of tight, a sort of screech.

I use a Burris Fullfield II 3-9X on mine, so far, so good. It's not necessarily pretty, but it works, and I had it on hand. I've been using one on another rifle for several years, and had no issues with it at all. I don't recall what rings I'm using with it, sorry about that.

When I looked at my first set of BKL's I thought these things are going to take a bunch of torque to get them tight and they did but you get them on right the first time like grnd1950, the man from a classic era said.

BKLs are my go-to rings for airguns.

This company needs to make a low version of their 1" rings though as they are available in med in high only unlike their 30mm models.

I have a 3-12x on my CZ 512 in 22 WMR, which might be the most accurate of a half dozen 22 WMR rifles in my stable. Talley rings with Weaver scope on the CZ 512 in the first 4 pics. Last pic has a CZ 455 American in 22 WMR on the top with the more compact Weaver Grand Slam 4-16x mentioned upthread. With the discontinuance of the Weaver line, I'd probably be looking at 4-12x offerings from Bushnell, Nikon, Vortex, etc.

As I have said many times before, the screech to which Gerald refers comes not from the rings, but from the rifle; a protest at being attached to something so ugly as a BKL ring.....

Seriously, as is so often the case, Gerald is correct. You really do have to work at that last little bit. Once done, though, they should not ever slip.

The Burris Timberline 4.5-14 x 32 AO is a nice little scope.

cub149 sir you do know Natchez still has the RV-9 in stock and if that is one you like then wait for it to go back on sale again...all my CZ rimfire rifles are all magnums (17hmr and 22mag) and I have 4-16x scopes on them.

My favorite scope in the Grand Slam 4-16x if you look at the picture all the short ones are 4-16x...and Natchez still has the 800654 in stock for $389.00. All of the scopes in this picture are 4-16x and higher (5-20x, 6-24x) I even have GS 4-16x on my CF FullStock rifles.

MY newest CZ rifles are two CF FS which are number 15 and 16 and both of them also have a Grand Slam 4-16x on them:

the main reason I like the GS 4-16x is because they are short and sweet with a super nice reticle in them and they fit my 452/455 rifles with Tangent sights on them:

Good luck on your quest.

Thanks for all of the advice guys.

I was able to find a new old stock 4x12x44 AO Weaver 849540 for a decent price and ordered that for my new toy. I have one of these on a 10/22 race gun build and I have been very pleased with it so far.

I did see that Natchez had the the 3x9x32 AO still offered, but the other scope was more economical and offered a bit more magnification (thanks to your suggestions).

Gun and scope show up next week....and so do the mags I ordered on the CZ 20% off sale.

If I don't use the BKL rings I have, what are your preferences?

Warne 7.3/22 rings in medium would work very well. Side plate flips to work very well with 11mm dovetails and pretty good with 3/8" dovetails.
