Hornady 30gr Vmax Accuracy

How many here get their best accuracy out of their .22 mag, no matter the make?

Having a CZ, and seeing how others have gotten their best results with Vmax in
their CZ's, I thought it was just that make that was partial to them.

However, I'm seeing more and more posts on forums by people getting their best
accuracy results with Vmax's with several different makes of rifles.

What about yours?

In every .22wmr I own the vmax bulleted loads are the best shooters, that's 10 rifles.

I have a new Savage B22 22 wmr and after trying several different brands of ammo, Hornady Vmax was the most accurate. Every rifle is different and will like different ammo but I find the Hornady Vmax shoots great out of all my 22 mags. I've also had very good success with Armscor 40 gr. in all my rifles also. I only have about 8 boxes of Hornady left in my stash, time for me to order a large batch and put it away.

Until this morning, I'd have agreed. I think I got a bad batch of Hornady's, though, as today's evidence shows, CCI 40 HPs outdid them handily. It was very hot and humid this morning, though, and maybe that had something to do with it.

Hornady 30 VMax is the most accurate in my SA 141M. Also, deadly on groundhogs. Have gotten 7 Groundhogs in the garden last season and the start of this.

In that order.

For my rifle, the CCI 40 gr game points actually beat out the hornady v-max by a good bit.
But like said, every gun is different.

My Marlin 783, 83ts and XT-22MTR all shoot CCI MAXIMAG 40GR HP the best. On the bench the CCI 40 HP will group at 1/2" to 5/8" @ 100 yds. The Hornady 30 Vmax will group at 1" to 1 1/4".
It's similar to shooting Stingers vs Minimags. The lighter, faster bullets don't group as well as the standard weight bullets.
I guess the Marlin microgroove rifling just doesn't like them light and fast. At least from what I have experienced.

V-Max in my heavy barrel Savage gives me about 1.25moa, with Remington Accu-tip not far behind. Everything else is 2moa, except Winchester at about 4moa

I was very hopeful they would shoot in my CZ455, so bought those (then) expensive
little boogers. Two inch pattern at only 40 yards.

Hornady 30 grain Vmax 22wmr accuracy?
Pretty much the same results as the CCI and Federal 30 grain Vmax 22wmr.
How can that be? All are made by CCI on the same machines using the same components.
Only differences are label, headstamps and tip colors.
Production quality varies which is why some boxes shoot well and some don't.
It's all CCI made rimfire for use as hunting or plinking ammo.
To prove it for yourself, shoot a one dot one shot target at 100 yards
and track the poi spread. You don't have to show me, I've already done so.
See?

Use a 77/22 w. headspaced aftermarket barrel, primarilly for groundhogs.

I'd had excellent results with Hornady V-Max and picked up a brick when my supply ran low. The bolt failed to close on three to five cartridges from each box. Contacted Hornady & they said send 'em to us. After a week or so, received a call, they'd checked rim thickness & found discrepancies.

In conversation with their rep., he mentioned their ammo was contracted through two suppliers, CCI & Winchester. Draw your own conclusions.

If Remington only uses CCI and Winchester to manufacture it's rimfire lines of ammunition,
then because CCI produces all the 17hmr, 17hm2 and 22wmr for Remington, Federal, Hornady and Norma,
that explains the quality of Remington labeled 22lr...Winchester doesn't produce anything but bulk 22lr.

Winchester 22wmr and 17hmr aren't exactly high quality rimfire ammo either, eh?

Regards, jaia:
Used (silver box) Win. Super-X 40gr JHP up until the ammo drought ten years ago. It was dependable, at least for my purposes. When supply loosened up I found another box of 50, I was not encouraged to purchase more.

When I can find it, the nickel case CCI 30gr V-Max has been reliable.
