I gave up on finding a decent TX22,,,
I looked at three different guns at three different stores.

All of them had highly visible barrel defects.

One was in the feeding ramp,,,
It looked like it had been badly carved with a Dremel tool.

Both of the others had what I think is called "chattering" in the barrels,,,
One was so bad that it actually snagged on a .22 mop when we were seeing if it was just crud.

Is Taurus' QC person blind or what?

How can they let obviously badly manufactured guns out to the marketplace?

Just ranting about a wasted trip to the big city,,,
Twenty five dollars worth of gas wasted.

It's a Taurus. They've had some great pistol designs but they don't have a handle on quality. It's hard to believe they are still in business.

There is an old saying - "you get what you pay for and usually less". They don't have a very good reputation. I bought a 992 tracker and probably will never buy another Taurus product again. I chalked it up to experience - lesson learned.

I will never mail order a Taurus,,,

I will never mail order a Taurus,,,
It's one brand I must see the exact gun I'm purchasing.

I've owned several Tauri in the past,,,
Decent designs coupled with shoddy manufacture.

I did like the way it settled in my hand though.

Thumbs down a good rule to follow

I will NEVER buy ANY brand new production gun ! wait a year and let the people who did buy one get the bugs worked out. sounds like Taurus Q/C is NOT THERE from what I am reading ! I do not need a new crappy gun.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube that have nothing but great things to say about the TX22. I have done a bunch of research and have found way more positive reviews than negative. It is the same few people that have negative things to say and a few of them do not even own one and still voice their opinion.

For $300 if you are expecting perfection than you are fooling yourself and will never be happy with any purchase. If you try hard enough you can find something wrong with ever firearm.

For $300, you are getting.....
16 round 22lr pistol...which is the first 22 pistol to offer that
Also you are getting a strikerfire 22lr pistol that from almost every video review out there, will function with cheap bulk ammo and highend 22 ammo
Also full Ambi
5lb trigger
Threaded barrel
Fully adjustable rear target sight
17.3 oz

Compare that to any other rimfire pistol maker and you will pay ALOT more than $300. And I can guarantee you that you will also have problems with that rimfire pistol! I have owned quite a few 22 pistols... Ruger Mark III Hunter, Ruger 22/45 base, Smith & Wesson Victory, Ruger SR22, Ruger LITE, Ruger Mark III standard, Walther P22. Each of the ones I listed were picky with ammo and had malfunctions. Also were WAY more expensive and did not have all the features the TX22 has.

With all of that being said, I hope this pistol lives up to all the hype that I have in my head...LOL!

Hello mykdee,,,

Actually I have a few $300-ish .22 pistols that are near perfection,,,
Bersa Thunder 22, Beretta NEOS, Ruger SR-22, S&W 22A, and a Taurus 22-PLY.

I have no problem with the design of the Taurus,,,
And it was precisely your list of features that made me look at three of them.

I do have a problem with shoddy manufacturing though,,,
That's what my post was all about.

I will still look at this model Taurus in the future,,,
But as with any thing made by Taurus I will check it very thoroughly before buying one.

Thanks for the report Aarond. I heard quite a bit about the TX22 and was hoping the QC would be better. My past experience with Taurus has not been good. Please let us know if you find a good one.

I actually just sold my Bersa Thunder 22, would not function with any ammo that was not high velocity which is stated in the manual. So not comparable to the TX22.

Beretta Neos looks like a space gun and has to be the ugliest 22 pistol ever made. Looks like a toy, so once again not comparable.

Ruger SR22, not full size, 10 rounds only, not full ambi, not threaded unless you pay close to $400+

S&W 22A 2nd ugliest rimfire pistol and no longer in production for a reason. Not very reliable and accuracy so-so at best.

None of the 22 pistols you posted have anywhere near the features the TX22 have. Especially when you consider that you can get one for under $300 OTD!!!

As far as comparable pistols go, the Walther PPQ M2 .22 (not the P22) is very similar.

I have both the TX and the PPQ, and though they are similar (both function well with almost any ammo) the PPQ is the better pistol IMO.

They are also very similarly priced.

How can one comment on quality of manufacturing on a pistol he does not own?

Because I looked at three different brand new guns (at two different stores),,,
All three of them had manufacturing defects that were easily seen with the naked eye.

I went with cash in hand wanting to buy one there and then,,,
I couldn't find one that wasn't obviously defective.

That's how.

Ignore the guy...he's obviously a troll. You have clearly stated your reasons for not buying a TX22 and he just can't accept it.
