Just ordered the gauge. Bought my 15-22 a couple of years ago used at a gun show.

I've put a TON of rounds through it with no problems, but will play it safe and wait for the gauge.

I just bought a Krytek Camo Sport (12/18) as a Retirement present to me for 25 years with Sears in greenwood. They closed the doors 1/10/19

I have not shot it yet but was in the process of getting trigger weight(6 ILB) I put a wall molly in a released the bolt. Pulled the trigger and got my weight and opened the bolt and nothing came out.

%%% the bolt hit the face of the molly and sheared it off even with the chamber. Don't know where rim is but it took a brass rod to knock it out.

I'm just glad it wasn't a live round, and now tonight I find this post.
BTW I just installed a CMC 3# and was in the process of going next week to sight it in. NOT NOW!

I found it a little ironic that this Notice came out the day after I received mine back from Smith and Wesson. I sent it in several weeks ago for an out of battery discharge. See the post from me several threads down from this one. I receive mine back and then I read about how every gun manufactured before February 1, 2019 may be affected. Mine is a very early (2nd year production). Coincidence? I know mine is not the first to have an out of battery discharge but still…

I called them this morning. They are sending me the gauge. Tuesday we were shooting and running a safety drill. Safe, fire 5 rounds, safe repeat. My wife's rifle fired when she moved the safety to fire on the 3rd series. Finger not on trigger. Pointed down range but we stopped shooting immediately. They emailed me a shipping label and her 15-22 is going back to the factory. May have been a fluke but it is her home defense weapon. It is what she can handle and is good with it. We cant take a chance on it firing when the safety is moved to fire especially inside the house. She will have to use mine for now if she needs it. I did not realize how long we had these. Hers is 2013 and mine is older. Both have lots of rounds through them.

This further increases my belief that nothing was wrong with the 15-22 at Appleseed. Had S&W found issues that allowed the rifle to fire OOB, then they would have taken corrective action.
(POLITICS OF M&P 15-22 AND APPLESEED ASIDE, not debating internal policies of either party)

This recall may actually allow the 15-22 back into Appleseed events as S&W has issued a recall with a fix for a problem that Appleseed says exists and needs to be addressed and S&W has thus far denied existing until now (provided that they agree that this is the same problem). This could potentially finally bring that issue to a happy ending and end that ban. Fingers crossed!

Did anyone that used the online order form to get the gauge receive a confirmation email and/or the gauge yet? I ordered using the website form on the 8th or 9th and never received a confirmation or any email/etc from them.

If I've read it correctly, S&W found an issue with the depth of the recess in the bolt face i.e. not deep enough.

S&W are issuing the gauges so people can check their own rifles to save everyone sending parts in & flooding the Company with work.

A couple of the guys on the S&W forum have recieved their gauges and mic'd them up at .036".

It sits in the recess in the bolt face and if the face of the bolt and the gauge are flush, then the bolt is OK

If the gauge sits proud of the face, then the recess isn't deep enough and it's a failure so it should be returned to S&W for replacement

I was lucky enough to get my bolt onto the CMM at work and the depth works out at approx 0.038" so mine should be OK. Still going to wait for the gauge though.

If it is .036" a set of feeler gauges should do the trick. I will have to look for mine. I put them someplace 20 or so years ago.

Should be able to read that on the tail end of a dial caliper held square.
Fwiw, that is tighter than the often quoted headspace for a Ruger 10/22

Got my gauge today. It measures .0355. The recess in my bolt matches perfectly with the gauge, so I'm good to go.
