Maybe this could be a sticky?

According to R.L. Wilson's book, Ruger And His Guns; changes in Bearcat frames and ejector housings. Some of the variations overlapped, making things more complicated:

OM Bearcat 1958-71:

First model had aluminum frame and brass anodized aluminum trigger guard; steel ejector rod housing. Serial 1 to 999.

2nd variation was the "Alphabet" letter prefix serialed guns.

3rd went to numerical serials 2000-30000; numbered prefixes began at that point.

4th variation went to a black anodized aluminum trigger guard.

5th variation went to oil finish walnut grips with a Ruger medallion.

6th variation changed to an aluminum ejector rod housing.

Super Bearcat 1971-73:

Blued steel frames, appoximately half of production having a gold anodized aluminum trigger guard and the balance having a blued steel trigger guard. Ejector rod housings all anodized aluminum.

New Bearcat 1993 - ?:

All had blued steel (or stainless steel) frames and trigger guards. Ejector rod housings were all anodized aluminum until Ruger finally began using matching blued or stainless steel housings in 2016.

I had forgotten about that Gunblast. It's a good addition to the info in Wilson's book. Thanks.

.

Humm, I've never seen or heard of an Old Model (1958-71) that didn't have a gold anodized TG.

AFAIK, the non-gold TG's were introduced with the Super BC (1971-73).

The early BC's had plain (no Ruger medallion) Rosewood grips.
