Want a HM2 rifle can' find one easily.I'm considering converting a CZ457 (available) with either a Lothar Walther or Lilja to HM2.

Is this doable?? Good Idea??

Or should I just buy a Volquartsen Summit (also available)

Will be used for hunting and informal target shooting

What say ye???

Do it. Check out the CZ sub forum for info. Several people have recently posted about conversions.

Or build an HM2 AR upper -- those are really fun and shoot well if you're the tinkering type.

I did it using a Green Mountain 17 cal barrel blank on my CZ 455. Actually my gunsmith did it. Works great and is very accurate. Haven't had a ground squirrel complain yet.

Edit: I posted about it here. https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forum....php?t=1031746

Put together but untested, my 452 American in .17m2 got the call for the Cornpile Chronicals. Expect it to be very good to excellent.

Put together on a 457 Synthetic platform, trigger adjusted to 1lb. 2 oz., hopefully get it out soon but not likely for this years squirrel season ending the 28th.

Very doable and well worth it. Pics below of SS CZ 455, LW barrel cut to 16.5, Rigid Alloy chassis and Trigger by SCAR 2 stage 8oz trigger.

keep it stock

Those rifles pictured are really cool examples. But a long way from throwing a new barrel on your 457.

I wonder if anyone has ever just bought a 455/457 HMR... Cut the chamber off and re-profile the shank, chamber for HM2,, cut an extractor slot and voila.

You have a CZ factory blued 17HM2 barrel.

I think you can get that done for $200.

The new straight barrel profile on the American's would fit and look good.

It's a mystery to me, why CZ doesn't make a few HM2 barrels. They seem to be responsive to the market. I can't see how they'd loose money on them.

gmd1950, where did you have to 452 re-barreled? I'd like to get mine converted to M2.

That's a 457 that I put the barrel on, I have two 452 .17m2's that are factory.

I put a 17HM2 Whistle Pig barrel on my 455. Shoots great. Was less than $200.
