So I've had my Henry for several years. It's suffered a few dinggs in the receiver coating so I stripped it and the barrel band. I had hoped that would have been ok but the finish seems to be oxidizing and no surface treatment works.
I'm thinking of getting it plated. Nickle? Brass? Anything else? Would anadizing it work? What would the cost be?
For a chrome-like finish, polish the receiver cover to a glassy shine, then cover it with a glossy clear coat.
For a faux case-color finish, polish the receiver cover, then daub it with a cold blue.
You can make multiple tries at achieving the case color finish via re-polishing the receiver cover with silver polish, and trying again until you get a finish that appeals to you.
Have you tried ordinary Johnson's paste wax? I've had vert good luck with it on both steel and aluminum. I have a polished out 10//22 that's been that way for years and it still looks just as it did when completed. Nothing to chip either.
I got curious and check in on youtube for the cerakote DIY option. It is a little complicated for a one time project - but; within the means of normal talent. Gloves, air brush, oven ....
The best option is probably to just order a new receiver cover from Henry. Black ones are only 49.00. Don't know about the silver ones meant for the Evil Roy model but a quick call to Henry would answer that.
I too love the 9422's, but I have one of the new long barrel Henry Frontiers that shoots as well as any of the four 9422's I own. It cost about 60% less too.
After trying to get paint to stick, I had my H001 receiver cover cerracoated. It looks great!
