50 Yard Iron Sight Shoot for OCT. 2020
Please read!

50 Yard Vintage and Unlimited Iron Sight Matches:

Many of these guide line remain the same as the old iron sight match.

I have been promising a new set of guidelines for this shooting game. Hope this is a move most will approve of. This only applies to the 50 yd.shoot. If anyone wants to take up the 25 yd and or 100 yd Iron Sight Match they are welcome.

Name Change to: 50 Yard Iron Sight Shoot
The changes are not to take away from the original range master Joe Haller, or the ones that ran the shoots afterwards, hhguntech22, Metaleer, & AJK547. I see this shoot as a place where we may keep track of our own shooting improvements, compare our shooting ablities with our fellow shooters, and to brag a little.

OK, lets start:

Iron Sight (Globe & Peep)

Matches start on the first day of each month and end on the last day of the month. Scores to be reported by the 2nd day of the following month. A Score Bulletin with all shooters names posted on the 4th or 5th day of the following month.

TARGETS TO BE USED IN THIS MATCH: NRA A 23/5 target. Note: This target is only for 50 yards. Five shots are fired at each bull for a total possible score of 200-20X.

The "HOW TO SCORE" Graphic: See https://www.snapagogo.com/images/202...23-scoring.jpg
If you don't have a scoring gauge, you should get one. They are more accurate than looking at a ragged round grease mark, and the gauge will sometimes give you an extra point.

Ammunition is shoot what you have.

Optical front lens are permitted but limited to 1.5X. Shooters may use tube extensions on either their front or rear sights as long as they do not contain any optical magnification and the extensions do not form one solid tube between sights; i.e., there must be a distinguishable distance between the front and rear tubes making them separate. Shooters may use any type or color of front sight insert (clear, amber, etc.) and after market eyepieces or discs on their rear sight (Merit, Hadley, Gehmann, etc.) as long as the inserts or discs do not offer any optical magnification.

You may shoot as many targets each month with the same rifle but please only post one target. If you use a second or third rifle please only post one target per rifle. Shoot as many rifles as desired.

From the front edge of the bench to the face of the target: 50 yards.

A maximum of 20 minutes is allowed to fire all sighter shots and five shots at each of the 4 record bulls per target.

You may shoot on an indoor range, please note it when post your score.

The let's not:

have any rail guns, or benchrest stocks. Any rifle with a benchrest type stock or a custom action or a factory action that has been "blueprinted" will not be allowed in this class. A benchrest stock is one that has a foreend with a flat bottom, more than 2.7 inches wide, and/or has the bottom of the buttstock parallel or near parallel to the bottom of the foreend. Bench Rest Blocks (plates attached to the accessory rail or stock) are not permitted.

At the end of the year (early January) I will compile all of a persons scores divided by 12 (months in a year) and post a yearly score.

I would like for everyone to report their score and equipment information as follows

Example:

Your name or screen name
Rifle, ammo, score
Equipment list (rest front/rear, any thing special about your setup)
Weather/or shot indoors
Excuses: Anything you would like us to know about your shooting day.

Would be nice if you could post a photo of your setup.

Made it to the range this morning to get these shot. Low light and cloudy so the breeses should hold off. Shot two with Center X with scores being the same and one with RWS Special Match but unfortunately the winds started again and that target ended up suffering. Bull 4 was calm, no movement in the flags at all.

Leroy Jones (leej)
Anschutz 1903 MSR. Anschutz 6834 sight set. Center X 200/16X
Sinclair bi-pod., Protector rear bag.
Cloudy, 52F, SSE 7 mph, facing NE
50 3X, 50 4X, 50 4X, 50 5X

Good shoot'n

Fine scores Lee. That's about as good a target as I've been able to shoot with RWS in any rifle. It just doesn't work for me. Tom

Thank you Tom. Bull one and two I was compensating for wind. Bull three started that way and just stoped. Bull 4 is more typical but have better in warmer weather. This ammo becomes unreliable as it gets colder.

Range time

The range isn't open on Thursdays anymore which was when most of us geezers would shoot cause the majority of the nut cases were at work or elsewhere. The place is a zoo now on the weekends when just across the road you can shoot skeet, trap or 5 station with us "normal" geezers without a black plastic rifle in sight. I forgot to mention, I continue to shoot air rifle at home.

I meant that the folks that use to shoot here seem to be gone for the most part.

Covid

Yeah, I'm only speaking for myself. There used to be 4 or 5 of us who shot the 50yd match. Things happen at our age that change your routine.
