federal 17 hmr
Hello gents . Your thoughts on federal 17 hmr. Picked 250 rds in a plastic canister at Bass pro shop in Macon,Ga. Very little info on the canister . Only thing on it was a pic of a target, so imagine its target ammo . Oh , forgot to munchin it's fmj hollow point.

BYOB. Bring your own bullets. I use it, its not the best accuracy wise, but what is?

If it's 17grain bullet it's CCI TNT, and if it's a 20 grain bullet it's CCI GAME POINT.
Federal does not make .17HMR ammo, it's just relabeled CCI.
Either way the 17 grain TNT has been the most accurate of all the .17hmr versions with GAME POINT being a close second it all 4 of my 17's.
See my scores here, and notice that TNT and GP (or their clone's) have worked well in many other .17's in this contest.

Oh, forgot to say, it's not target ammo. No one manufactures a target grade HMR ammo.

There's 17HMR target ammo, just no match ammo.

Open challenge at 100 yards to any setup and rimfire caliber.
It'd be nice to see just how tight those groups can be with the 17 hmr.
See if it can top the results produced with a custom benchrest 22lr.

I was just curious what the POI would be at 50 yds with my rifle/scope zeroed at 100 yds. POI was exactly the same for both yardage with similar results.
Rifle: Anschutz 1727F 17HMR
Scope: Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44
Ammo: Federal Premium 17gr Hornady V-Max

The .17 can rule ...
Jaia says "Open challenge at 100 yards to any setup and rimfire caliber.

To which I respond, I have shot a lot of 100 yard egg shoots and these were with any rimfire and a 9x scope limit. No wind flags. The .17 HMR was clearly the best at the game. I agree, it is not match ammo, but the wind factor is huge. I have shot these matches with the .17 HMR and a .22 and in these matches, the .17 ruled.
I have huge respect for Jaia and what he has contributed to the knowledge here on RFC. And I suspect if the egg shoots I attended were also attended by top benchrest shooters with their rifles, ammo and wind flags, they would have won all of the matches. But they were not there. A more pedestrian collection of us common folk were. In my opinion, every day practical usage, the .17 HMR is a very good choice for accuracy.

I tested a few different rounds out yesterday at 100 yards. This was the Federal 17 Grain HP. Shot with Savage B17 FV-SR off a bi-pod. I found it to be a great groundhog round.

This a particle target I shot for my Wile.E. Coyote 100 rimfire match in 3-5mph winds.
Was going to shoot 2 twenty round groups, but stoped at 5 on the second one because how small the group was.
Shot with my Anschutz 1727F using CCI TNT 17gr.
Here's the actual match target. The wind was a bit stronger, but more importantly somewhat switchy.
