Holster for Mark IV Target?

Log in to see fewer ads
Anyone found a belt holster that fits a Mark IV Target model? The old leather one that came with my 1950 Standard model of course works fine for the Mark II, but the Mark IV Target barrel is too long, too fat, and the front post height too high to fit in the old holster. I'd prefer one in leather, but could use a nylon one. Just something to hold the gun while walking around in the woods or at the cabin range. I have no interest in the hard plastic type holsters.

Is this the model you have? I think maybe your barrel is longer...?

I bought a C.O.W.S leather holster for my Ruger mark IV hunter from shopruger store. Fits great. But they quit selling em. Maybe you can find one someplace else. It’s a very nice holster with a spare magazine pouch too.

Barrel length is right but no scope, so it might be a bit sloppy. Thanks for the tip though. Not easy to find one that's "just right."

That's for a longer barrel but could have worked, but doesn't seem to be available now.

Check out Grizzle leather. I have had Ryan make me some belts and holsters and his work is great. I had him make me a field holster for a SR.22 that’s really nice. I see he now has the dummy gun for the Ruger mark IV Target 5.5

There are some on ebay, but I don't have any experience with the sellers (unlike the last one I posted, where I thought he did a good job):

I bought one off eBay last year for my mark III 5.5 inch bull barrel. Holster is actually for the 6.8” model but works well for my bull barrel. It has the mag pouch too. I checked eBay a few minutes ago and are quite a few on there for sale.

The TandemKross/Black Dog/Tacsol (all the same holster) kydex holster for the Mk-series fits up to a 6" barrel, is ambidextrous and is cut to clear most red dot sights on a Picatinny rail or dovetail mounting base. It's modestly priced and very secure.

I have used one that was made for a Browning Buckmark Hunter. It fits quite well. It is nylon. It has a pouch for an extra mag. It is under $20. It does have the Browning logo on it.

Also, consider looking at the used holster table at some gun stores. I recently purchased a Mark iv Hunter and was wondering about a holster for it. Hating to spend money for a nice holster at this time, I looked thru my collection of holsters for one that would “work”. I found two, one for my Browning Challenger I bought in the late nineteen sixties and one for my S&W Model 14. One was a little snug and other was a little loose. Either one will work. But I can understand wanting a new holster for a new pistol.
