WOW, nice shooting Cowboy !
some day i hope to be that good.
I can usually manage a 90+ for one tgt out of the five

Keep them scores coming in guys, and don't forget you can enter a score for BOTH scope & irons class !

Thank you. I have a target to be shot with irons, hopefully today. I don't think the score will be anywhere close to the scoped target.

You think ? So did i, but so far my irons score is 15 points higher than my scoped effort, something i did not expect to happen !
Of course there is a slight weight difference, the scoped gun i am shooting is a 5# Glen.25, the irons gun is a 10.4# K82G.
Definitely something cool and satisfying when i can make it go bang just as that bull pops into front sight ring on the Kimber.
But i did not expect to beat my scoped score with the peeps !

Fun stuff, all around.

can a Jersey boy get in on this?

I'm still waiting on paperwork from the state before I can get a rifle so it may be a month or so before I can actually shoot.

Any other South Jersey guys/gals in the neighborhood looking for someone to shoot with?

Went to the range yesterday with my brother. I had to get out of the house. I shot from the bench for a couple of hours and wore myself out . Hopefully I can get back on my feet before the end of the month and shoot an iron sight score. Kirby

Beautiful bluebird day. Temps in the high 60-s to low 70s. Wind <5 mph.
I had to experiment to find an aperture diameter that is suitable for shooting these 50 yard targets at 25 yards, but I found it.

Here is the target:

On my Kimber (25" barrel), the 4.0 is nice. Gives me a nice narrow white ring around the black bull. Experiment.

Shot my first practice target today which was 397-4X

My equipment is pretty high tech:

Mossberg 44US(a) made 1944-1946
Lyman 17AUG front sight and Mossberg S-100 rear
Remington surplus ammunition from CMP - $1.50 a box
Trigger is somewhere around 6 lbs. My gauge will not go high enough to get an accurate reading.
Only one round was out of the 5 ring which was better than I hoped for the first time out.

I haven't shot 50 rounds standing total in 20 years and this was FUN...

Watch out "Cowboy4" I'm comin' after ya....

Please review Post#1

Guys, I'm getting some questions on how this match works.
It's all spelled out in Post #1 here. In a nutshell:
Shoot FIVE bulls, TEN shots each. Score each target & add em up.
That's a total of 50 shots for score.
Shoot as many times as you want in the month, then post your best effort by last day of month.
You can enter twice, once for scope class & once for irons class.
The rest is all covered in our first post.

We are not fussy or picky here, but we all want to be playing the same game.
Any questions, feel free to ask here or PM me.

The idea is to get out, shoot lots, set lots of PR's, and have fun !
Bob

My gunsmith has an old 44 that is quite accurate. He had to make a front mount for a Lyman aperture, but it works and looks great. His is a gray-ish parkerized finish and has an idiot proof trigger pull (excess of 5 pounds).

How is the Remington surplus ammo working out? I've never had any love for Big Green's rimfire ammo. If the CMP stuff will work for gallery matches, I might order a case.

That ain't hard to do. I'm used to seeing folks go whizzing by me on the "tote board".

I bought a Mossberg 144 this summer and them bought the 44US. They are easy to work on if part are available and reasonably good shooters. I shot a 200-15X in the 50 yard iron sight benchrest match here which I will probably never beat...

The Remington surplus has surprised me. I've had maybe 3 or 4 failures to fire out of over 1,500 rounds which is better than some report. The accuracy is acceptable for fun shooting but I'd never use it in a serious match. I would say it is better than Winchester Wildcat, equal to most bulk ammo today (better than todays Remington bulk), but not as good a CCI Standard Velocity and others in that category. I ordered a little more of it last week. But, all of my shooting with it has been with aperture sights. Using it in a scoped rifle might change it's ranking.

My goal in these matches is to shoot a 425. That is a streach for me and my set-up but it will be fun trying.

Don't clear the left lane for me just yet....
