Bought a MK1V upper the other day from Volquartsen then saw an ad for a new complete MK1V bolt on e-bay for $35.00.

Fast shipping and is as advertised.

I just finished looking the bolt over and checking the firing pin. It is one of the old style with only one hole but it is too rough to be a VQ pin. Polished it up a bit and will see how it does.

I already had a VQ extractor and put that in.

I don't really need a MKIV bolt, but Ruger charges $65 to replace a bolt (with trade in). At least they used to (for a MKIII bolt). Their price may be even higher now. So I checked out the link.

$35 for a new bolt is a pretty great deal. But for a measly $5 more, I bought the bolt AND new MKIV hard case! My used MKII didn't come with any box at all. Now it will have a pretty nice one.

Thanks for posting the link boomer!!

Well, my new case and bolt arrived a few hours ago.

I like the case okay. I wish it had some foam padding inside, as well as in the lid. But I think it will be fine. Really not bad at all for only $5 extra.

The bolt is definitely brand new. It has the best finish of any mark pistol bolt I've had to date (this is #5).

The crescent moon end piece of the recoil spring has uneven ends. Only one side contacts the back side of the bolt track. Not too big a deal though. I can even that up with a small file.

The extractor seems okay (for a Ruger part), but I'll order a new one while I order a new firing pin. The FP is one of the Titanium ones I'm sure is made by Tandemkross. It's slightly better than the MKIV pins Ruger used to ship, but only slightly. It only has a single hole, so it shouldn't break. But it still has the overly rounded lower/back corner and the overly tapered tip.

If anyone has an old (single hole) style Ruger FP they want to trade for a TK pin - shoot me a PM. I like the original pins the best.

Thanks!

I bought a Volquartsen Competition bolt

I like the finish which makes it easier to clean. The handle on the back allows for an easier pull and better leverage.

But it was also about $250 which I installed on my Ruger Mark IV Target with T&J Tactical Integral Suppressor, Volquartsen trigger kit and Vortex Venom.

I got the same deal as Test Engineer, bolt and box for 40 shipped. My box was for a 22/45.

And I have bought several of those "take-off" Mk 4 bolts fairly cheap online as well. They are all new, and mine had the OEM innards.
