Concerning the Volthane, there may have been. They fit a friends hand perfectly and I recouped my investment. Didn't want to butcher them considering the cost.

Thanks Sir. I'm glad you recouped your investment.
My interest in possibly altering a set of Vothane's to fit me goes way back to my late fathers K-38 S&W revolver. It has an antique set of Fitz wood thumb-rest target grips on it, and I've always loved the grips, especially the good sized thumb-rest (I also love the Herrett's I have as well). That said, I quickly figured out that textured rubber makes for a much better grip material (due to it's better "traction" properties), including cushioning recoil on larger calibers. The Volthane grips are the closest thing I've seen in what I'm after, minus that bulge on the right side and how they force the middle finger down. That's a real shame as they otherwise appear to be exactly what I've always wanted (for all but my carry pistols, which are a lot of pistols). If Volquartsen were ever to re-design these grips, they'd end up with a substantial amount of my money!

Still searching

Finally received a set of Ruger 19855 Oversize Target grips to try on my MARK IV Hunter. Getting closer to being big enough but not guite there. Think I will try to make a set of spacers from .105 vinyl sheeting and see how they fit.

Good luck Kabong57, I hope your plan works!

The only other thought I have is Bondo.
Not the paste in a squeeze- tube for scratches, but the smallest can of automotive bondo with a separate thing of hardner. Remove the finish and rough up the surfaces where you'd want to add "material" (thickness) to the grips, then apply (mixed w/hardner) bondo as needed, sand, repeat if necessary. My experience with plastic-wood filler is that it only sticks good in a thin layer, not thick, which I think you need? The bondo should stick to wood, plastic, etc (but double check the label before buying any).
Obviously, using bondo is a messy and time consuming process. You'd also have to paint it when finished, or otherwise "finish it". If I ever get my laminated Volquartsen grips modified for my Victory, I really like the idea of having them finished with a professional spray-in bed liner product (such as Rhino or Line-X) to have that "tacky" black rubber finish I've wanted so badly.

Success finally !

Got this inspiration while changing backstraps on my CZ P-09. Took a section of 3/4" poly water line. As it turned out the inside diameter fit around the aluminum grip frame perfectly and butted right up to the grip panels. Trimmed it up and used a heat gun to contour where it meets the beaver tail. Streched a universal grip sleeve over it and bang, good to go. My trigger finger falls right in place with no unusual cramping. Feels so good now.

Good going sir. I like "outside the box" thinking, which in this case (and in many others) solved your issue.
