82 today, had 28 players in our points league, will soon swell to 60 or so. traffic is getting worse by the day as snowbirds exit the frozen tundra up north. marty

about thanksgiving and the days that followed, sight in days were Friday thru sunday with buck season the first Monday after thanksgiving. factories and schools closed as that was pretty much a state holiday in Pennsylvania. certainly a special time, things change, not always for the best..marty

1962 myself, Steve, tom and Tim had our first experience of deer camp. this camp was located in bald eagle state park, to the north and north west was treaster valley and turkey valley. {Amish owned farms that we had permission and shared with those folks} to the northeast was Lewisburg that later in college we had permission to hunt, more about that later. to the north was Penns creek world famous trout stream. so anyway that's where I shot my first buck, a 7 pointer that hd one tine broken otherwise an 8 point. so this camp had no electric, plumbing and was 2 or 3 miles from the nearest camp and 6 miles from the nearest paved road. treaster run ran close to this cabin and they had built this quite large ice house that had well. this place stayed cold even in the summertime. so meat, eggs and such stayed refrigerated even in the summer. most of the fellas such as Gerd, Germain, Sam were all WWII Vets, they liked bacon, fried potato, they also liked beer and tomato juice. but the one thing of all this was their cases of rock and rye. they had 3 years of rock and rye insisting it had to stay in that ice house 2 years then ok on the 3rd year to consume... funny how something sticks with you when your a kid. more about that camp, penns creek, Lewisburg, Treaster and turkey valley during the college years.....rock and rye...lol...marty

cold in yooperville.

i was talking to a friend the other day who lived up there when he was
younger, said in the winter it was another world. Said you had to be a
little crazy to live there. it's about 32f here today. no snow on the ground.
when i visited marty last year there were plenty of places for sale there.
looks like 70 percent of the folks go back north for the summer. it's not
very costly either. have a good christmas and winter al.
