star stamps on Stevens 44 muzzle .22LR?

Just curious if anyone knows what this stamp might mean. Some gunsmith mark? Looks like it might have been relined. Just nothing I've seen before.

Looks like it might just be decoration; especially since it isn't concentric with the barrel outline or bore.


I have some older German single shots with "muzzle art", and one with a previous owner's name stamped on it.

Also noticed that 2 of the stars are smaller than the others. Kind of odd even for decoration.. Bore is perfect, too perfect for an old Stevens.

Ithink your suggestion that it was relined is correct; the picture shows the join line pretty clearly.

Try asking on the American Single Shot Rifle Association website. Lot's of experts over there.

Back in the day there was a well renowned gunsmith named Crossman that offered a 5-STAR barrel. Could there be a connection?
