I did not respond to his remark and took his remark with a "grain of salt" also. I will not mention his name either.

I owned one of these about 8 year ago - bought it at a gun show in Florida for around $900 or so. I put a 36x scope on it, adjusted the trigger down to about 1.5#
( wouldn't go lower ), tried many match ammos and bedding techniques (but not glass bedding) but never got very good groups with it. As I remember, the very best it would do was 0.35-0.50" inconsistent CTC groups at 50 yards and I already had ( and still have ) a number of other sporter 22's that would consistently do much better and so down the road it went.
I had hoped for so much more out of it - mine was a dud.
Have never seen another one over many, many years of gun shows and so I believe they are rare.

I have shot at least 8 40-X sporters; both repeaters and single shots. They are kinda finicky about action screw torque because the barrels are not floated and have a pressure point at the end of the stock. Throw into the mix a third action screw and it is a recipe for problems. I was struggling with a mid-run repeater and called guther to chat about it. His advice fixed the problem and I have used it on every 40-X since:
1. Unloosen all 3 action screws.
2. Tighten the front action screw to 28 lbs.
3. Snug the rear action screw to about 15 lbs. Snug, but not very tight.
4. Tighten the middle screw just enough so it doesn’t fall out.

The results will be incredible.

You are referring to inch/lbs? or am I assuming too much?

Bob
