Ohhh, that could get stinky....I say that in all sincerity as we use kero lanterns in the hunt shack and a little leak in the stowed gear has an aroma that never really goes away. The Coleman Fuel 'white gas' aint quite as bad, but almost. Propane or butane is 'clean' and almost too easy.
But I mostly like well seasoned oak.

I keep a hatchet packed in my tent bag, good to pound stakes, cut small limbs, split firewood. And an old piece of indoor/outdoor carpet to place in front of the tent door, keeps from tracking dirt into your living/sleeping area. I actually use one piece outside and one inside.

I've been moving to it. Available just about everywhere. One five-gallon tank is more than enough for a 10-day truck camp. What I'd like to find (just haven't tried hard enough) is a two or three gallon tank... smaller footprint and should be enough to last through most trips.

The Basics Start With a Knife

How you gonna cut all that rope?

And anything else that 'needs' cutting?

I'll assume you're like me and probably most others here on RFC and have an EDC
pocket knife that could comfortably perform most/all camping duties . . . but . . .
how can you knowingly go camping without your favorite alternative for a Bowie knife?

All of this is assuming there is an alternative for a Bowie knife, I suppose.

Don

(The hatchet could do in a pinch I guess.)

Hammer.

Small basic tool kit.

50 feet of rope in addition to your 550 paracord.
I've got a 50ft tow rope in my truck. Justin Case

For 'car' camping I don't leave home without it. Ive even used one under a tarp for a comfy quick camp.
I like a solar lantern, Ive not run out of light in an evening yet. Dont care for gas lamps or battery eaters.
I thought about solar lights, and may add a couple to the list.
We use them during power outages at night, to navigate the house.
However; I think they could compliment my propane lantern, not replace it.
It'd be great to have a bit of light if I have to get up in the middle of the night.

Lighter and/or matches.

I believe I've seen toilet seat gizmos sized to fit the buckets.

Don't forget the phone charger. Camera? Or relying on the phone?

What's the insect situation there?
Charger, back-up chargers, are in the truck
Phone for a camera. You are familiar with my photographic prowess. It's legendary.
Butt Wipes are an excellent idea, and shall be added to the list.
I don't smoke, and am not planing any fires, but I do have a lighter in my truck.
I'll bring a long camping lighter to start the stove and lantern. Thanks
I'm thinking about one of those bucket seats.

I don't own a hatchet, and my ax is a double Michigan style. I'll bring an Estwing Claw Hammer for stakes.
Thank You

Geesh. Some things just don't need to be on a list.

I've always got a knife in my pocket. My Daddy raise me right.

No Whine. Pun intended. See above post regarding beer.

I keep a pack of those baby butt wipes in all my vehicles and have since using them on my babies years ago. Very handy.
