I just bought a pristine Sport King that dates to late 1953. I was really excited to make this find until I got home and worked the action to try the trigger. The gun will not cock itself when you work the slide. I suspect this gun has laid in a drawer for years. Any quick ideas on a remedy?

It's pretty hard to diagnose something like this without actually seeing the pistol.

However, you kind of answered your own question...."I suspect this gun has laid in a drawer for years."

A field strip and cleaning/inspection is probably in order. In case you don't have it, I believe this manual will work for you:

http://www.histandard.info/manuals/l.../0162D150R.pdf

I have a '53 vintage Sport King as well and above link is similar to the manual that was in my box - skimming through them both, the only difference I can tell is that mine is dated 4-53.
