Hard to tell with the resolution that is allowed, how do bases look? Looks like dented base in the CZ bullet.

Gotcha covered W8.

Been uploading the rest of the mornings results.

Front and rear of the Fed 36 grain hollow point

And the results with Eley Action 40 grain round nose.

Top is as shipped
Middle with the shoulder cut
Bottom is with the drive band nicked at the crimp

Left to right same order

The shoulder cut damage doesn't make it down to the bullet heel.
The nick at the crimp shows as a slight flat spot on one edge of the heel.
The bullet gets swaged back as it engages the rifling.
The further aft the damage, the more likely the damage will show at the heel.
Damaged bullet heels produce strays and fliers.
One of the first things I learned reloading.

Now that I have a way to catch fired bullets and can inspect them,
need to build a way to shoot individual bullseyes and compare target results
to the actual bullet that produced that result. Compare bullets to accuracy.
Track results vs. cartridge defects...understand those strays and outliers.

The Federal appears to have been shaved on the right side during seating operation? Oddly enough Eley on left side that was not nicked appears out of round. Possible hit of another round into the fiberfill?

Unknown W8.
Might even be my lack of skill with the camera and shadows.

What interests me is the uniformity of the heel.
The crimped seating is swaged out of existence by the tightness of the bore.
Looks nothing like a pulled 22lr bullet heel.
Drive bands are a larger diameter than the seated portion on the unfired bullets.
All one diameter on the fired bullets. Total shift in bullet material to the rear.

Compare the fired 22lr to the original Minie bullet.
Only difference is size. Antique bullet designs, both of them.

I see how the rifling engraving fades away after driving bands on the Eley. From what I’ve read stock CZ and perhaps other barrels have a smaller bore diameter. That may show as fins on base.

KM, flangster only got the short barrel results correct.
Messed up on the long barrel pool, didn't he?

I've designed my partitioned target catch.
Big sheet of coroplast and a box knife will do the job.
Individual cells of poly-fil for each bullseye.
Recover the bullet from each bullseye and compare it to it's results.
See why some bullets hit center, others stray off.

Another thought having to do with bullet recovery.
At 200 yards the 22wmr has slowed down to a velocity
that ought to allow it to be caught by a poly-fil trap.
MV of a 40 gr fmj CCI 22wmr is 1850 fps, at 200 yards it's down to 1050 fps.
The 40 grain 22lr caught today are running 1080 fps at 10 feet from the muzzle.
No problem catching them. Have to try the 22wmr.
There's another recovery I want to see for myself.
Why do those 22wmr strays show up?
Is it a problem with the bullet heel?
