You're missing the 700 series and earlier 22 mags.

Remember, your 22mag magazines will work with this 'new' rifle.

So if you REALLY want to get into a fine Marlin bolt action with some power potential, there's always the MR-7! Mine is in 30-06 :-)

Of course if you just want to stick to rimfires, then you'll want to find a 917M2S also:-D

well the rifle is in my state :-}

I have been following the rifle and now it's about 60 miles away and this morning I am getting excited so I went out and looked at what I had for rings and scopes and I found everything I need. These are Weaver Classic V series scopes (V-16 and V-24) off my CZ rifles that now have Weaver Grand Slam scope on them and some rings I had for one of my regular Weaver base rifles. Can some one crank the clock forward for me.

Wow hard to believe...that a guy like me has a spare scopes just collecting dust...let alone 8 spares to play with...what is a guy supposed to do. Day after tomorrow I will only have 7 spare scopes...should be 6 because one of my scopes is selected for a CZ 527 FS rifle when I order it.

Thanks for the kind words.

Well guys it came today and i got one picture before the sun went down:

right out of the box:

The rifle did not come with any scope bases and I ran around today trying to find some...could not find any...so when I got home I found some SS bases I had bought for my other marlin rifle that I forgot about...I knew this was meant to be.

I did not notice until after I bolted on the scope one other surprise and that this rifle is not just a SS fluted beauty and 17hmr caliber but the rifle is not a 17VS but a 917 VS with the later upgraded 900 series trigger and it breaks just above 3lbs which is perfect for me as a hunting rifle.

I am one happy camper...big time...the rifle is beautiful, super clean and balances better than I thought it would and is going to make a fantastic hunting rifle for me. I can't wait to go and sight it in.

Better pictures tomorrow.

Help find a used Marlin bolt action

It was suggested I should look for a used Marlin bolt action. So while I'm trying to find a XT22VR I'll start looking for a used older Marlin. Since I'm a newbie to Marlin bolt actions I'd like some suggestions what to look for and what should I pay for them.

I'll mostly be shooting targets and a few squirrels.

RCO sir the place to look first is look up a marlin 2008 catalog and go from there that will cover most of what you want...I can take pictures and post them if you can not find one on line. Here are most of mine...I am a magnum guy:

Marlin 883, 983 Fleur de lis, 983 SS all three are 22mag and 917 VSF in 17hmr

XT22MSVR in 22mag and 980 V in 22lr in front

If you ask the other members will jump in and show and give plenty of advice. Just let us know what you want...wood, laminate or synthetic stock...barrel weight sporter or bull barrel....and anything else you want sights or not. marlin made a lot of different models over the years.

or better yet go to the top of the marlin forum and start checking out the photos members have posted.

I hope this helps.
