Blued 981TS???

Log in to see fewer ads
I have the opportunity to purchase a used (but mint) Marlin 981TS for $150. Based on owning a 981T when they were first released years ago I know that I want this rifle and will be picking it up tomorrow. My question is this, from what I read nearly everywhere the “S” in the 981TS stands for stainless. If this is true then the one that I’m going to purchase is actually stamped as the wrong model as it is blued yet stamped 981TS. Has anyone seen this before?

Could it be a Model 81TS that stands for Target Sight. Look at the rear sight I think it's adj for elevation and windage. I missed one a couple years ago just like yours, like new, for 100 bucks. As Homer says, DOH! Maybe there was a 981TS Target Sight model. PS only need to post in one forum. Everyone will see it who will answer.

That makes sense. It's all depending on when it was made and what they called it. Old Mossbergs are a PITA to figure out model numbers just like this.. Either way I grab it for 150 in good shape. It's a real Marlin.

Upon going to pick it up this morning I discovered that it is in fact a Marlin 81TS. It looks brand new. Any advice on replacement stocks with good wood? Thanks.

You might find some deals at Numrich. I missed a good deal on that 81TS I saw. Nice rifle.
