Thanks Stan. Looking forward to seeing Sept. targets. You have picked some dandy's. I just wish some youth would get involved in Class I. That is our future of the shooting sports.

class 1

greetings,

here is my first attempt
dug out my old Ruger 10/22 - so old it has a walnut stock!
it was sighted in for CCI mini mag HP, so I stuck with that

score: 285, if I did it right
if it touched the line on the outside of the bear, it was 5 points - correct?

RFC Alias,_Merle_________, First name_Merle_________
Score w/ bonus_285_______, Class_1_______,
Scope_Simmons pro hunter 4 ~ 12X_____________, Iron sights,________
Rifle make,_Ruger 10/22_______, Ammo,_CCI mini mag HP________
Weather conditions_87 deg & humid clear sky no wind___________
Excuses_I learned that I can not focus this scope at 25 yds while at higher magnification probably because it is a CF scope_

Good showing Merle and Welcome. I think you are correct on your scoring according to Stans rules of engagement. And yes if that is a center fire scope with no AO, they are usually set to be parallax free at 50-60 yards and not 25. POI can be a lot different than POA at 25. You can check parallax at 25 by supporting your rifle firmly while pointed at a target dot and just move your head up or down or left or right without touching rifle and see if the crosshairs move on the dot. They should be rock solid on the dot. The smaller the dot the better.

It's a cheapie, so no AO. I'll try fighting the focus again, but the heat and humidity were getting the best of my COPD - I basically strafed the targets so I could get back into the air conditioning....

If it's cataracts you will like the results. I can shoot good with peep & globe (NOW...).

yep, cataracts in both eyes, plus astigmatism, plus near and far sighted, plus thickening of the retina.

in other words, a real mess....

I'm trying to not get my hopes up too high, but anything will be an improvement!

...in other news:

Just replaced the front sight on the BSA International, from Parker-Hale to an Anschutz Globe Front Sight (18mm).
I have a bunch of 18mm inserts, not so with the Parker-Hale...

I'll have to test it tomorrow, to see if a riser is necessary.

Ducks beware!

I finally made it out yesterday. Just in time for the cold (?) front to blow through. My Brn-22r with Ruger everything else managed to score a 350 with CCI SV. My CZ 455 Varmint out shot it with Norma Tac22 with a 360. Both guns are class 2. I hope that I could do better in more favorable conditions.

Loke...

Pictures would be great. That would let us know which target, scoped or iron sights.

Do stick around, we change the targets every month
