Experience with 457 American 22 wmr

Log in to see fewer ads
I’ve recently purchased my very 1st CZ rifle and doing a little research led me to RFC. I’ve been lurking 👀 through the forums and reading all the rave on the CZ 452’s and wished I had found this site prior to my purchase. Anyhow I purchased the very LAST Cz American 457 in .22 wmr they had and am now anxiously awaiting its arrival to my local FFL. I sure hope it’s gonna be as accurate a 22 wmr as my Marlin 882ss micro groove is anyways hope I made a good purchase?

Mine shoots very well... Make shift rest, 7x scope, 50 yards, larger holes are from sighting in another rifle.

30gr. Hornady VMax

Danged good looking rifle too.

Welcome to Rimfire Central Tex! Yes, you made a good purchase, CZ's are a huge value for the price.

I wouldn't expect to get a stock like Gerald's though, he has a habit of finding the one in a million examples

+1, and I suspect the pretty lumber is a small reward for all the good he does

Also would y’all recommend glass bedding and torquing the action screws for maximum accuracy? What all do you normally do to your CZ’s @gmd1950? I respect your opinion as well as others due to how many of these rifles you own. Thanx and goodmornin.

I have more than a few CZ's, only three are glass bedded, one 452 American in .22wmr, a 455 American in .22 lr and a 527 in 6.5 Grendel, I check for snug screws in the barrel to receiver fit and stock to receiver fit. With the 457's I usually adjust the trigger to suit me and then just shoot them. From there I only do what I think needs to be done to give consistent accuracy, that's usually nothing.

Oh yes, I give the barrels a few quick clean, couple of wet patches then a couple of dry.

Thank you @gmd1950 Iíll shoot it and have a look see when I get it, if itís not to my liking Iíll do exactly like you say. Outta curiosity Gerald how many torque pounds would you start with or whatís the range to play in? Thank you kindly,
Respectfully David

I start low, around 12 inch/pounds and shoot a couple or five groups, then up 2-5 inch/pounds on up to 24-26 inch/pounds usually by then the rifle has told you something useful. With ammo in short supply for many you may well want to go with fewer groups but I'd do at least two at each stop along the way. YMMV and all that.

Inch pounds of torque as Gerald says! Also note that if you get over 30 you can start to crush the wood on these CZ walnut stocked rifles so don’t overdue it. Welcome to RFC!

I really appreciate the advice and tips. Last question which torque wrench or torque screwdriver would you recommend?

I have two, a pretty widely available Fat Wrench does pretty well but I have a Utica purchased used off Amazon the goes from 0-36 inch/pounds that I use most often.
