OK, I'll be the ignorant idiot.. how do you push a .22 bullet down a .17 barrel?

I just checked a few each of the two types I have in my range bag downstairs here - SK Rifle Match is .223, and Eley Club is .2235.

I don't see those going down a .17 tube regardless of how the chamber is configured.

Called "swagger barrels", a fellow talking about his Custom Brno #1 so chambered in the CZ/Brno forum now, I see no advantage but some folks were ga-ga over them years ago here on RFC.

Completely baffling to me..But I have converted three 22 LRs to 17 HM2..I kinda wandered what would happen if someone in the future stuck a .22 Short in the Chamber and fired it..Now I may have to try it myself

Aaagh, maybe not..

Yep, read about them online a couple years ago. Had no idea it was even a thing till I seen someone talk about them online and had to search for it.

I would love to see a ultra slow motion video of the bullet coming out of the barrel. I bet that thing is long! Probably like a mini javelin/spear.

Called the Extruder by the Australian gunsmith Arthur Langsford from Broken Hill who came up with the idea a long time ago(1970's or '80's). There wad a .17 and a .20 calibre version.
They gave higher velocities and greater energy and penetration downrange than the regular .22 lr round used. A faster twist barrel is required as the swaged projectile is longer.
Barrels were made by Sprinter Arms in Hahndorf, South Australia.

Yep. Mine is a .20-cal though, made by Connecticut Precision Chambering on a Douglas blank 20 yr ago and fitted on a Ruger 10/22. He did make a few .17 cals as well that got 2000+ fps with Stingers. Mine is fairly accurate with Stingers and Aguila Supermax, but only gain about 100 fps over factory spec. I don't shoot it much anymore now that I've got a .17 HMR.
