I have a 455 .22 I can't get to shoot like I want it to. I have played with it till I am tired of it, so , I am thinking of getting a .22 magnum barrel for it for grins and giggles.. What is a good accuracy guide for 455 .22 magnum at 50?

I have a new to me .17hmr 453 waiting at my gun shop for its 452 Match cousin to come in Friday. I will make one drive and pay one fee that way....Nuff that, magnum 455 shooters, info please.

Thanks everyone.

I have a 455 American in .22 mag. Best it will do at 50 is 3/4 in. This with 6 different types of 40 gr. ammo. Many here claim better accuracy with the lighter poly tip stuff but I use it for coyote and bobcat so stick to the 40gr. ammo. Have glass and pillared action and polished muzzle, no noticable change.

....and yet they're unwilling to join us in the 100 yard CZ challenge.

Hmmmm, wonder why?

I know, I'm being a bad boy, yet again.

The 22wmr is not a target round.
It's a small game round with a bit more thump,
to take down critters that are annoying the chickens.
No need for sub moa accuracy,
and the quality control necessary for consistent results
does not exist on the 22wmr assembly lines.

If you are thinking that another barrel in 22wmr will improve y'er accuracy, don't.

Depending on the ammo quality, I've seen 5 shot groups at 100 yards as small as 3/4 inch
and others that exceeded 4 inches due to light powder charges that produce muzzle velocities
well below the rest of the group. Hunting ammo, not target, be it 40 gr jhp to 30 gr ballistic tips.

I've been shooting 22wmr rifles and handguns for over forty years, and I own several of them. They are not target guns by any means. Of all the guns I've owned during that time they all had one thing in common....the best groups out of any of them, handgun or rifle, have been with CCI 40g HP or CCI 50g HP. I have NEVER gotten any of the hyper velocity to shoot well in any gun, and I've never gotten any other ammo to shoot nearly as well as the CCI 40/50 grain....NEVER. I read all the hype on here about fantastic groups but I've never seen it myself. Right now my most accurate 22mag is a Savage BRJ that will shoot 1.25-1.50" five shot groups at a measured 114 yards (my deck to my backstop) and will do it on a regular basis. Every other brand and weight of ammo does 3" or better at that distance. Needless to say, I stick to CCI ammo. Ammo is the limiting factor with the 22mag.

Our 455s in 22 mag (an FS and a V) will usually do half inch at 50 with the poly tipped stuff and sometimes with CCI 40 grain HPs. Can't always hold that MOA at 100, but now and then will nudge under an inch with poly tipped, less often, though, with the HPs. Most groups at 100 are an inch plus.

As a rule of thumb, of the three CZ rimfire rounds, the 22 LR, the 17 HMR and the 22 mag, the 22 mag is typically the least accurate of the three for us. Not poor in accuracy, mind you, just not as reliably accurate with a wide variety of ammo as the other two. We still enjoy shooting the cartridge, though. Fun rimfire round and accurate enough for us in that regard.
