Finally getting a MKII

Log in to see fewer ads
I should have it in a couple weeks. Never had one but have shot and wanted one for a long time. Man, I am thinking of going .22 everything now since I have quite a few .22s and have gotten rid of most of my other calibers. I will of course keep my prized 1911's and the latest shotgun I built but may just buy .22s from now on. If any of you can, please fill me in on what you see as mods on this. I haven't been told yet but I see a mag release, sights, and possibly a trigger. Knowing the friend I got it from it's all tricked out because I know he used it in competition.

Mag release, sights, grips & screws for sure. I'm guessing he installed a complete Volquartsen accurizing kit. That includes trigger, sear, hammer, bushing, disconnector, and extended bolt stop thumb piece. You can only see the trigger and extended thumb piece without stripping the pistol down a bit. Hopefully, he also upgraded the extractor. Aftermarket firing pins are also available, but I personally like the steel OEM firing pin the best.

Looks ready to go. Congrats on a fine acquisition! Myself and many others think the MKII is the finest of the entire series of Mark pistols.

Good eye!

I am fairly certain after some more research it has the complete Volqartsen kit in it, and the mag release. I have a email in to his wife to see if I can get in touch with some of his fellow competitors. I also got a Volqartsen 10/22 and some other guns from him in his will. So I'm certain he tricked this one out with those parts. I'm sure it'll be a fine addition to my treasured guns. I do shoot them all quite often.

I agree with many of the previous posts, but I think it also has Volquartsen sights on it too.

Good catch. I've never seen that front sight, so it isn't likely stock. I seem to recall that the VQ rear sight has a narrower notch, so it presents a more precise sight picture.

Yes, I bought a new Volquartsen MKII Match Carry pistol back in 2004 and it came with a set of sights just like the ones shown on T5r's pistol and they are indeed very nice.

Your gun appears to have an aftermarket barrel , probably either a Volquartsen or a Clark. Either way that should be one accurate pistol !! And yes it has a volquartsen aftermarket trigger .

Nice looking pistol, and it looks like it might already be set up to be a great shooter. Good find.

You'll have to join us in the offhand pistol matches and show us what it can do!

I picked it up today, and the 870. I gave it a close look, and the whole trigger kit from Volqartsen is in it, as well as an aftermarket barrel. Looks like the barrel is unmarked, but the sights are also Volqartsen so I'm going to hazzard a guess this is an early VolqArtsen. The barrel is totally unmarked. My best friends wife said she is pretty sure he sent the gun to Volqartsens custom shop and had it done so ill go with that for now. Going to shoot it tomorrow.

Nice pistol. But not an early VQ. Early ones had the gold trigger and the wide paddle trigger.

The only thing you need for some accurate shooting is some ammunition. I wouldn't change a thing on it until you put a brick of ammunition through it. Well done!
