Friend has a 452 HMR varmint I might try to talk him out of.

I own or have owned 4 or 5 452's in .17hmr, all are at least good shooters and a couple have been exceptional, I'm sure there have been some less than good ones but I've not stumbled across one.

Got my 452 in HMR in 2003. Have not used a 22 much since on squirrels, except I've used my HM2s a lot. I still miss a few with the HMR, but its me missing, not the gun. The misses are usually hurried shots. I never aim off the squirrel's head at any range, just maybe up or down a half inch if its real close or over a hundred yards. The HMR is literally overkill for squirrels, of course.

You will like it. I chased Jack Rabbits a few times with mine. It was the American. The Varmint is a little on the heavy side for field carry. If you hunt with a walnut and steel centerfire you are used to the weight.

Viking499 sir you have been here for a very long time and I am surprised that you don't own a CZ in 17hmr...you already know I am a 22Magnum guy the count is like 12 to 5 on the two calibers. My older brother talked to me for about three years before I got my very first 17hmr and today I am looking for more 17hmrs to get the odds a little better. My one CZ 17hmr that just flat out rocks is this one and I will never...repeat never sell this rifle:

Your friend should let you try it out with a couple flavors of ammo.

Have or had many 22's over the years, but never a CZ HMR or WMR. I do have a Tikka HMR that I am fond of.

Viking,

My CZ 452 17hmr varmint is so accurate at 100 yards shooting off bags that it becomes boring.

Would not field carry a varmint as they are heavy.

This 452 would do under 3/4" at 100 yards for 5 shots with CCI FMJ. I had 6 inches chopped off to keep it handy with the silencer. I'm not anticipating it having any effect on accuracy but I should know soon enough. Velocity loss should be under 100 fps from what I've researched.

Here is a before and after, I'm amazed how much the lighting changes the look of the stock!

Really like mine. Will shoot between 1/2 and 3/4 inch at 100 yards most of the time if the shooter is doing his job. Found out you do need to clean them more frequently than a 22.

My 452 17HMR has become one of if not my favorite rifle to shoot. It is extremely accurate with the only thing holding it back from being consistent is the lack of a match grade round. Even with that I have complete confidence in shooting it at 100 yards. If you can get him to part with it you won't be disappointed.

I bought one of the last new ones out there and then I ran into another older used gun a year ago. I tried to convince my buddy to buy it but he was slow on the draw and ended up with a Ruger American he had to send back for extraction issues. Both are VERY ACCURATE. You can't go wrong with a varmint model 452... period.
