Hammer removal

You can remove the hammer without removing the strut pin. Move the adjusting plate far enough left or right (it doesn't matter which direction) to clear the upper and lower tang. Let the strut spring push the plate rearward off the strut. Remove the hammer screw. Work the hammer with the strut still attached up and out of the top of the receiver. Some of these hammers come out easier than others, the older models like yours always seem to be more difficult. It will come out be may require some patience and some cussing. Don't ask me how I know this technique. Good luck.

Thanks. I'm waiting on a NOS buttstock, or at least I think that it is NOS.

I took the pin out. I tried just about every direction to get the hammer out without removing the strut and pin. It's not that problematic, just a little annoying. I was cleaning everything up anyway.
