My new CPC tuned rifle

Recently I decided I wanted an accurate, stainless 10/22 for fun-shooting and some occasional squirrel hunting.

I wanted a standard profile barrel to keep down weight. I decided to buy a new 10/22 stainless and send it off to CPC for a full tuneup.

I picked the rifle up from my FFL and immediately went to the range. I did a quick field strip & inspection, then blasted it down with gun scrubber, pulled through a bite snake and lubed up the bolt area with CLP. I shot 50 rounds to verify function then headed home. Packed up the rifle sans stock and shipped it off.

About 5 weeks later it retuned. Work on the bolt, crown and chamber was very well done.

I swapped the factory stick for a MagPul X-22, installed a low profile picatinny rail and a Vortex Diamondback HD 2-8x32 in Leupold QR rings.

I have four range trips under my belt with well over 1000 rounds down range. Other than a few failures to feed I traced to a problem mag, reliability has been 100%.

It shoots very accurate with CCI SV, CCI Mini Nags, Aguila SuperExtra andvFederal Automatch.

It shoots cheaper stuff as well as can be expected, and I attribute the slightly larger groups and occasional flyer to the ammo itself.

My expectation for this work is I’d receive s rifle that was very reliable and would achieve the best accuracy possible with a factory, standard profile barrel. I was not disappointed.

I’ll see if I can figure out how to upload pictures.

If your rifle will shoot those groups with the four brands/styles of ammo that you cited, think how much better the potential is once you start shooting higher grade ammo.

That's it start out with high dollar ammo and work your way down.

That's my thought. When I send my barreled actions and money to CPC for a full tune up and I want to know how well they will shoot when they come back, I start with higher grade ammo, like Eley Club or Target or RWS Rifle Match, in order to set a performance baseline and then work up and down the price hierarchy from there.

I keep a couple dozen brands and styles of .22 LR ammo on the shelf for that reason. I currently have around 34,000 rounds of .22 LR on hand to feed the herd.

I always start out with CCI SV because it's the cheapest. Hopefully I get luck with that.
