Light weight barrel reliability

Thinking about a new barrel for a low to mid coast race gun, don't have the cash to go all out. I was considering a wistle pig or a beyer barrel. I have seen some threads on accurace, but am more concerned about function reliably. Iknow the reciever and bolt play into it, but any one have any issues with getting either barrel to run well? I would get the beyer standard taper berrel to avoid getting a new stock.

be careful with aluminum tenon barrels...I've heard that the chamber area gets battered by the pounding of the steel bolt against it

I've not seen it personally, but I don't know anybody with an aluminum barrel either, so take it as internet babble, but it's out there

if you can find an aluminum and or carbon fiber sleeved barrel (with a stainless steel tenon/liner) that's the way I would go..I have several of the Volquartsen THM's and they run beautifully, but if I were looking for a light barrel today I would have to go with the KIDD Ultra Lightweight..and I'm not a KIDD fanboy, it's just that for the price I think they are a pretty good value

I know I looked at Kidd when origioanially searching, but must of mentally scratched them off due to the barrels being slightly heaver than the other lightweight weights. Had it in my head they were more expensive, but they are not that bad. Will add them to the list and decide if the steel breach is worth the added weight for a speed shooting rifle. Thanks for the reply.

I recently bought a Summit Precision carbon fiber wrapped barrel. It weighs just a few ounces more than a Kidd ULW. I've only had one range session with it so far but it functioned flawlessly with CCI SV and was decently accurate with same.

I have two of the Kidd ULWs. Both are very accurate and 100% reliable. They eat everything. I have both on stock receivers and bolts, with Axiom stocks, Kidd Trigger Jobs, and Nikon 3-9 Rimfire EFR scopes. Balance is exceptional. I highly recommend them.

Thnaks for the replies. Glad to hear the kidd barrels have been rliable for you. It is the heavest barrel I would consider for a speed shooting rifle.
