Question Baffling HS Tournament Issue

Log in to see fewer ads
I have a HS Tournament Mod 107 that is presenting an issue that leaves me baffled. I'm shooting BE matches and can no longer rely on the gun to function. The gun will fire the first round in a string of five but most often leave the spent round in the chamber or less likely jam. If the gun is then cycled and cleared it will most often fire the remaining 4 rounds successfully. The gun has been extensively cleaned, had new springs in most places and had a new extractor installed. Any suggestions would be appreciated included a reliable gunsmith if there are no obvious answers. Thanks.

NOT Mystery !!!

I assume that you put a REAL Recoil Spring in your pistol - CORRECT ??? Does this Pistol Have a SQUARED Shape Slide or is It rounded on Top ??? Does this Happen if your use 5rds of HV Ammunition- Just as a ONE TIME TEST ??? You could have one of the pistols that was made for a short time with a Slide that was TOO Heavy. Bob Shea often said that you could use 22 WMR and NOT Hurt the frame or Pistol- That was said Jokingly !!! - Alan Aronstein

Question

I haven't actually loaded 10 rounds, may try that for a reference. The new recoil spring was from Wolfe, have tried 2 now. These are the factory spec springs, I believe 5.5 lbs. not stronger. There have been new mag springs installed to. Have tried 3 different mags. I have not tried HV ammo due to the advice not to. Would try if a mag worth won't do damage. I think my slide would be considered square shaped. Hard to say without a comparison to the rounded one though. Is there a serial number range with slide weight issues. Should mention that the gun was working well for some time before issues arrived.

I too have a square slide. I have found that ammo in the 1130-1160 fps range is required to cycle the action. Try Remington SV/Target or SK Pistol Match Special.
If your action is at all stiff, you may need to try Federal Automatch.

Have you tried the plop test. A shell should drop into the chamber fully, or nearly so. Close the slide or just push down on the case. Invert the pistol and the shell should fall out. If it doesn't, use a bent brass brush and a little powder blast or bore cleaner to clean the chamber very good. Dry and retry the plop test. If it falls out via gravity, try your pistol again. I bet if will fire without hesitation. Works on my HS 103.

plop test is all fine and dandy and i use it frequently to tell me if My pistol needs cleaned. BUT if those magazines are not tuned to the ammo you are using it is a waste of time. RECENTLY CHANGED RECOIL SPRINGS, MAGAZINE TUNED TO AMMO USED, AND A CLEAN CHAMBER AKA PLOP TEST= A HAPPY HI STANDARD PISTOL AND OWNER.

Hello,

Can you add a photo of a Square Slide ? I haven't seen that referenced before. I see that Numrich Arms has full unfinished slides. I thought they just needed to be finished machined. Thank you.

slide weight differences

I have attached photos of a round top slide from a series 103 Citation (slant grip frame), and a flat top slide from a series 107 Sharpshooter pistol (military grip frame). The round top slide weighed 6.5 oz. and the flat top slide weighed 7.2 oz. A round top series 107 Sharpshooter slide weighed 6.7 oz. A series 107 Citation slide weighed 5.5 oz. (of course, no rear sight). A rear sight assembly weighed 0.9 oz.

ejector missing?

Nuvolari, you should check to see if the ejector is still in place on the frame. They sometimes get loose and fall out, which will cause ejection issues.

HSWayne - The ejector is replaceable? Thought it was integral to the frame.

ejector part number 10253

The ejector was pressed into the frame on these models. Here is a photo of one.
