Rifle hunting medium-sized game -- scope or irons?

By medium-sized game I mean antelope (pronghorn), deer, sheep, goats, hogs, and bear. By "usually" I mean more than 50% of the time.

When hunting medium-sized game with a rifle what are you using for sighting -- scope or iron sights?

I always use a scoped rifle for medium game, partly because so many shots occur in early morning or late evening light.

Depends entirely where you hunt. In New England with short shot distances and thick cover a scope is often an impediment. If I lived on the Plains I would probably feel differently.

Depends on my mood. .45 Flinter, .50 percussion, or 45-70 trap door all have open sights. 250 Ackley Imp and 280 Rem both have scopes. I've taken medium size game with all of them.

Since I hunt only with flintlock longrifles, it's iron sights for me. Scopes are now relegated to the shooting range and fun shooting.

Pre64 model 70, .338 win mag. The octagon barrel with express sights machined into barrel, sighted in for 100, 200 and 300 yards. Leupold VXlll 2.5-8 scope. My go to center fire hunting rifle. Would add a vote to poll, but having both that works was not listed.
