What is Savage Anschutz

I'm studying Anschutz rifles. The 1712 silhouette is what I like best. I've never owned an Anschutz. I do have a Cooper 57M in .22.

I see some Anschutz listed as "Savage Anschutz". Are these same quality, build, etc. of just the Anschutz?

I don't want to offend here but ever since my brother bought a Savage Center Fire in the early 1980's I have avoided Savage like the plague. That rifle had a terrible trigger. I know a sample size of one isn't fair and I see ads that claim Savage has much improved their line over the years.

So, I'm not drawn to the Savage Anschutz.

Once upon a time Savage imported and distributed Anschutz rifles, and vice-versa....determined by the order of the two names. If you don't know how to distinguish each make sure it says made in Germany on it...Tom

In the 1960s and 1970s Savage and Anschutz had a partnership whereby Savage imported Anschutz-made rifles to the U.S. and sold them under the name "Savage Anschutz". They are every much an Anschutz as those with only the Anschutz name stamped on them. In Canada, CIL (Canadian Industries Limited) also had a partnership that saw CIL import some Anschutz models to Canada. They have the name "CIL Anschutz" stamped on them and they are Anschutz rifles.

Anschutz for a time imported some Savage-manufactured rifles to Germany. These were stamped "Anschutz Savage" and were made by Savage. Over the years some of these rifles have made the return trip to North America and are sometimes mistakenly offered up for sale as Anschutz rifles. "Anschutz Savage" stamped rifles are Savage-made.

To piggy back on here, I have a SA 141M, this rifle and the 141 as well as maybe a couple others are the only ones that I have seen with this stock. Did Anschutz also make their rifle available with the same wood or was this strictly a Savage stock, it is actually one of my favorites for a light weight hunting Anschutz rifle.

When it comes to all of the 22mags I have had the SA 141m has been my favorite and I woukd say very accurate. I would love to find a good 141, so I would have to say do not be afraid of the Savage Anschutz rifles.

I have a couple of rifles marked Savage-Anschutz and a few marked Anschutz. All are made in Germany. Quality and accuracy are equal. They are superb rifles.

l have a Savage/Anschutz model 184 and I can attest that these rifles are truly up to the rifles made under the Anschutz name exlusively As a matter of fact, I think my rifle is nicer than a lot of regular Annies I've seen out there.

To the best of my knowledge - and I have found one of those stocks marked SILE inside the barrel channel - these were made in Italy for Anschutz and mostly used on the export rifles. I found the stock on an Anschutz branded 1415/1416 in Germany and have seen very, very few of these in Germany. The stock is more suited for benchrest, while these guns are commonly used as varminters in Germany.
