37 screw size/diameter and thread

Hi All

I’m hoping somebody here can help me with the screw size and thread pitch. I’m doing a custom build and the action came with no screws. It is the 2 screws behind the magazine cut out picture below. Magazine lock bracket screws? As always thanks all for your help.

Those are 3-56 screws. They have a head larger than most generic 3-56 screws you'll find, being .187 diameter. You could put a small washer under a generic head if making a special screw is too much work. The length of the screw under the head is .165.

Good luck on those parts. I do have a spare safety but am fresh out of ejectors and magazine latch parts. Honestly, the double-hook design of the M37 magazine catch is my least favorite part of the Rem 37 design...kind of squirrely and temperamental. Once they work, they seem to be fine, but M37 magazines and SS adapters often do not interchange rifle to rifle due to the specific fitting required for that catch. If you're going full-blown custom on this, I think I would recommend a different approach to the magazine catch...and maybe the magazine itself (). Diligence and persistence on Ebay will likely lead to success, eventually.

And, since you will probably be asking, the action screws are oddball 7/32" x 28. Re-tapping the receiver to 1/4" x 28 Rem 700 screws is the best approach.

Can't wait to see progress pictures

Does anyone have any of these parts James and I could borrow so he can make copies, I would return them after he copies them, I would also have him make an extra set for you on me for the hassle. I believe he will be making changes to mag well but he wants to get the factory spec first.

TBR would you mind talking to James about the items hes missing and lend some of your knowledge about the 37 to him? If so ill send his number

Parts for an 80-ish year old rifle . . .

I have a spare ejector that you can have copied . . . let me know where to send it.

I will have to dig into the parts boxes to see if I have a spare mag latch or not . .

stay tuned, will check this evening.

Don

(Living vicariously thru WatchAddic(t) because, well, Remington should have made a '37 Sporter.

Think about keeping the basic bolt handle shape.
If you change it, how will anybody know its supposed to be a '37?)

Lucky Day for WatchAddic(t)

Found a mag latch w/ bracket and two small screws in an envelope that says:

'Rem 37 Magazine Lock Bracket Screws".

I will try to get them sent out on Monday and will let you know when they ship.

Don

(Condition appears very good or better on all parts --- they should serve as a good model!)

You are quite welcome as I'm pretty sure they will be put to good use . . .

Remember: Pics of the end result or it didn't happen!
