I already moved it back. Didn't take pic of it moved

My Fall Projects

I'm usually building and selling Ruger 10/22 stocks. This fall, I decided to do something a little different, by building 5 rifles for myself.
My first project was a rebarreling of my Mauser 98, 6mm/284. The stock was refinished and a new nosecap added, with a 27" Lilja 308 barrel.

My second build was a new, 26" Howa 308, barreled action from Brownells and my first centerfire stock build. The wood is mesquite, with a maple tip and grip cap.

My next two projects were similar. Both were 308 Howa, barreled actions, with 20 inch barrels. The first was a hunting style build and the second was a target style stock. Both used a Nutmeg color, laminated blank.

Finally, is a 6.5 Creedmoor, with a 24" Howa barreled action. The wood is maple, purchased from one of our members. The grip cap is a piece if the mesquite scrap, from my second build.

this is all my centerfire rifle or at least most of them. I don't have pictures of all of them. I also have a Shmidt & Ruben swiss K31 in 308 but no picture. and one of the pictures has a couple rimfires in it and as long we are not counting AR pistols. and a couple rifles are in twice because they are in with others that I don't have individual pictures of.

Need a few Savage levers in here . . .

A 1970's vintage (I think) 99A in .308 Winchester, a Redfield receiver sight on back.

An older Savage 99T Carbine (1937) .250 Savage with 4x Pecar scope in Tilden mounts.

Pity these rifles were discontinued, they are fun to shoot and are classic rifles from way back.

I'm amazed that I never stumbled into this forum before now. I've got a lot to read here; I'm a huge 6.5mm fan and own rifles in 6.5 Grendel, 6.5CM and 260 Rem.

I'm here today to write of my Ruger Hawkeye FTW and the fact that it came with the ugliest camo paint job ever seen on a factory rifle! I have no idea why Ruger went with two shades of brown over gray (who thought that looked good!?) and I've heard a rumor that they are not selling well.
I got a stupendous internet deal on mine and didn't let the appearance bother me. My 260 Rem was only a first-year chambering and is already discontinued and sold out.
So I love the rifle but hate the ugly stock. It's forest green laminate under the paint but I decided not to strip it so my son can sell the complete (rare collector?) rifle one day. And I hate the black plastic butt spacers too.

On the 14th (only 8 days ago!) I bit the bullet and ordered a Boyd's stock for the rifle. I'd checked out their website many times but never ordered until now.

Frankly, I am stunned and overjoyed! The stock is beautiful, fits perfectly and could not be better in any way. The barreled action dropped right in with snug clearance around the receiver and the barrel is perfectly free-floated with only a tiny gap.
The colors are exactly as I wanted with one side predominantly red while the other is mostly gray. Both look great with the light gray metal finish. I've gone over the whole stock and there are only a few tiny imperfections; it is 99.99% perfect.
Some may think the colors gaudy but this is a long-range target rifle only fired prone or from a bench. Never to be dragged through the brush.

I've seen some neutral reviews of Boyd's but my experience is fantastic and I'm already planning to buy more. Only 8 days from order to receipt for a custom built stock, wow, and it is higher quality than I could have imagined. Only $217 (with $55 checkering) is a steal and I couldn't be happier. Five stars!!

Edit: And when I look at the pics again, I don't like the two brown areas on both sides near the buttpad. I'll sand them off and it will look even better.

Then: T/C Compass .204 Ruger and Remington 783 Walnut 6.5 Creedmoor.
