I had always wanted a 5mm and wish I had went ahead and bought one when I was a kid. My Mom even offered to buy a 592 but I din't want a tube fed,No I wanted a 10-22!!
So now that Im older than dirt I want to join the Club. I got to thinking (Dangerous) that I have a very good shooting NEF Sportster in .22 mag,Great Trigger and accurate. Would it be safe to have it sleeved for a 5mm???
What do you guys think about this?? Thanks for your help....Jeff

Don't know of anyone that makes a .20 caliber liner, ... and even if they did would it be the right twist .... you say your .22mag is a great shooter ..... never mess with a great shooter. The ammo quality and choices for .22 mag are leaps and bounds ahead of what is available for the 5mm.

They pop up from time to time..... be patient.

Most of the rebarreling have been using the 204 barrel. Not sure who would do the conversion. I have a 17hmr Rossi that I would like to have done in the 5mm if I could find some one to do it. If you find some one let the rest of us know. Their are a lot of break opens out their that could people would like to convert for the new 5mm ammo.

Yes it is a great shooter if all you want to use is Winchester 40gn HP and 30gr. looks like I used a shotgun. I bought a Savage 93 .22 mag so I could shoot 30gr Vmax and it does also 40gn good to. I just figuerd that the action is strong enough and is cheep enough to fix if the Sleeve didn't work. that and I dont think there would be any trouble ejecting the round like some of the Rem's have had. What twist rate is a 591/592 ????
So do you think the action is strong enough???

Twist rate of the 590 series (if my memory serves me correctly) is 1:12.... the action on those single shots are bomb proof and should be more than strong enough .... but will the juice be worth the squeeze?

Thats what she said!! I contacted a Smith that works on Thompson Barrels and he said it needed to be Sleeved and it was not something he wanted to get into. He said something about the barrel is offset from Centerfire so the pin would hit RF,but he also said he knew nothing about NEFs so go figure. Still lookin for a Smith!!!!

The T/C have a lever you move to shoot CF or RF. Like I said most are using the 204 barrels and machineing them for the 5mm. This smith sound like he needs a lot more schooling.
