T/C R55 Sporter in 17m2: Jamomatic :(

Log in to see fewer ads
Hello,

I recently acquired a T/C R55 Sporter in 17m2. Well balanced with impressive fit and finish.....but it jams (failure to extract/stove pipe) on every shot but the last (bolt hold open on final shot stops that)

With 10/22 this is usually due to an extractor that "lets go too soon" because of extractor' geometry. Does R55 have a similar issue? Maybe chamber is too tight and needs polishing or do R55's like to run Wet?

I am frustrated and would appreciate any comments!

Clean the chamber. REALLY REALLY clean the chamber. CLEAN the Chamber again, then for good measure clean it again.

The rifle is susceptible to chipping the chamber (easy to see) There is a fix for that (see the stickies at the top of the page) I'd be really careful to not mess with the chamber. I've had a few of these rifles, never got one to work right.

Thank you Sir. I will clean the chamber, repeatably but if even after that you've had issues then I'm no longer an optimist.

Can anyone else please help me? 😳

Check the extractor slot for a chip or a really shiny spot. IF you have a chip or a shiny spot you'll need to relieve the area (per the stickies in this section) that's two-three things to try so that's helpful right?

Thompson also changed something with the magazines after the first several years to supposedly help improve the cycling. Ive used the .17 mags in my .22 with no problems, not sure if it would work the other way round.
