Walmart/Tristar O/U $357.00

Model 98036. Upland Hunter EX Silver is what it says. This is not the same as the Setter or the Hunter that Tristar shows on their website. It is made in Turkey by Kral. Closest one I can find is the CaraCara Woodcock model. It is an alloy receiver model with steel in all the right places.
I called Tristar a week ago and got some info on this model. I also got some conflicting information. They say parts and labor for one year followed by parts only for the next four. My manual only states parts and labor for one year. I shall question them on this.
The gun: Mine has some staining on the butt stock but my wife liked the pattern so we got it. Turkish Walnut. Nothing special. Nice tight fit with a sharp click when closed. Extractor only. Single selective trigger and the safety is not automatic. I like that. Checkering is laser with flat points. I like that too. Slim forestock with a slight Schnabel. Choke tubes are chrome as is the bore. Uses the Mobil Chokes. Sheet, IC, Modified, Improved Modified and Full. They fit very well and should cause not problems. 28' barrels have a nice deep bluing hidden by the preservative. Small red FO sight. No mid rib sight. Breech open lever centers when closing so a mid rib isn't needed. Laser etching in numerous places tastefully done.
Shooting it. I managed to get a few shots off tonight with heavy hunting loads and I'm very surprised how well the gun manages the recoil for its light weight. I could feel it in my shoulder by my face felt nothing. That's the biggest reason I bought this gun was how well it fit me. I always found myself pushing my cheek firmly on the stock to get a good alignment over the rib. The only other gun that feels this good to my face is the Franchi Instinct LS and that one runs $1,500+
More later

A little more information. Best I can tell it is a Kral CaraCara variant. It has features of the Woodcock, the 1 and 2. I shot 75 Federal rounds through it at some clays wearing a T shirt and no pain today. I removed the butt stock this morning and am very impressed with how clean it is inside. Well made, well lubed and absolutely no metal shaving left over from the machining process. The fit of the butt stock to the action was very even and complete showing no signs of high spots. The more I shot this thing the better I like it.

Thumbs up so wal mart carries these, WOW

I have never seen one but 357. for a decent quality O/U is OUTSTANDING in my opinion! do they come in 20ga? do the interchangble choke tubes come with the gun? ? it is one darn good looking shotgun. last year I bought a Hatsan Escort 20ga pump ,26" , walnut wood, for 200. new at academy sports.it is a fantastic shot gun for the price.the Turkish made guns are excellent quality, fit and finish!!

Wink looked at one today!!!

my store only carries the 12 GA, drats! for the money it IS one fine O/U shotgun! the mfg website shows the list price at $640.00. I guess WM gets a price cut. I may check my LGS and see what they can do on price.i have always wanted an O/U but never could pay the price. these are reasonable for sure. I asked the clerk about 20GA, 26" barrels, "didn't know". I may do some more checking later when someone else is there!

I don't think Walmart carrys anything other than the 12. There is a guy on Shotgunworld that has a 20 looking just like my 12.

Actuall, the WalMart 10 miles away from me claims to have one in the back with the 26 in barrel length. I've been toying with getting an over/under... well, just because I never had one. If I get it, I'll get back with a preliminary report at least. We've got several inches of ice all over the place so the range isn't in the picture for at least a couple of days.. I did look at the 12 gauge, nice dark glossary stock but a couple of nicks in it. They brought another one out and the wood was a matte finish, no nicks but not nearly as nice. I didn't ask to see the 20 at the time nor did I ask how many choke tubes came with it.
