The Correct Process Once a Deal is Pending

Log in to see fewer ads
Sellers... Please use the "Commit To:" option and name your buyer once a deal has been made with your single item ads rather than editing the ad and changing the status to "Deal Pending" or placing "SPF" in the title or comments as neither closes the ad. We've been seeing a lot of ads on the TPC front page in "Deal Pending" status or with "SPF" in the title that are still open when these should really be closed. This is not a new process and has been in place since this version of the TPC was started. I've been using it for years now and it works well.

This process is not required, but it's a nice system and it will help you to keep track of what's been paid for... plus help keep the TPC front page available for more new ads.

This is not to be confused with the optional "commit to buy" option at the top of the ad. This is at the bottom of the listing and is only seen by the seller.

Some instructions...

Once you have a deal pending, you start by selecting user name...

...and then enter your buyer's username and hit go...

Once entered, this marks the ad "Deal Pending with... <user.name>" and puts the ad into a closed status...

In addition, it gives you some links to send your buyer an email or private message in need be.

What this does is gets the open ad off the main page (for example if your item sells quickly) to make room for more ads to get main page "face time".

There have been some concerns regarding "SPF" and "Deal Pending" ads being closed and the main concern seems to be a need for the ad to stay open should the deal fall through. This is not necessary and if the deal does fall through, there's a link at the bottom of the page "List an identical item for sale" which can be seen in the previous pic... just click on it and it wall start a new ad in the event that it doesn't work out with a buyer.

This also sends the buyer and you an automated message regarding the deal as a reminder and as well as a bookmark to the ad for your buyers convenience as the ad will no longer be readily seen in an open ad search should the buyer forget your info.

Once your buyer has paid, be sure to click on the "Mark Paid" button at the bottom of the ad...

This marks the ad "Deal ended with... <user.name>".

...and sends another courtesy notice to you and the buyer that you have marked the ad paid...

This also will bring up a "Leave Feedback for buyer" link at the top of the page for your convenience.

That's about it it... from there the closed ad can be deleted, but should auto-delete in time if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, it's a nice system, just not a lot of people seem to be using it. At first it might seem complicated, but it's pretty simple once you do it a time or two.

Thanks for looking.
