My first ar22 build

My friends have been giving me a hard time when they found out I was building a ar22. They said I would be better off and spending a lot less if I bought a 15-22. Sure I could have caved in to peer pressure but what fun would that be.
Iíve only put 100rds down it but it has functioned flawlessly. Boy do I love this thing!

Nice basic build that should spank a 15-22
Well played

What bolt catch setup did you go with?

You certainly made the right decision. Sounds like you're hooked! Nice to have a best buddy for your shooting partner too!

Very nice and I see it takes 15-22 mags.

There was a guy locally that sold 7 of them for cheap. I read that they were really reliable so I picked them up.

I've got maybe a Hundred bucks more in this than a nice S&W AR 22, Tac Sol upper, PSA lower and all Magpul furniture, runs like a top and accurate. I'm happy.

Pay your money and make YOUR choice.

If I was smarter, that's how mine would have ended up...but no, I paid my money and made my choice, and now have a ridiculously expensive gun built on the same TacSol kit you bought. But it's almost done, just waiting for one more part to arrive before I post pics. Sad thing is, you'll all just ask yourself why I bothered when you see it.

Nice build. I recently sold a Colt AR22 to fund my Yankee Hill Machine/CMMG/Giesle build. YHM upper/Lower Handguard etc. CMMG bolt and barrel then Giesle trigger and charging handle. It runs great! I hated the trigger with a passion on the Colt which is made by Uramex.

I'm waiting on some M&P mags to try out my boonie packer redi mag adapter for last round bolt hold open. I did put the Catch AR22 bolt catch in mine which will catch the bolt but not on last round hold open using the supplied CMMG mags.

But what's the BMA you guys speak of?

A boonie packer product that permits use of S&W 15-22 magazines, a Better-Mag Adapter. it also has the virtues of being removable and has a spacer for the magazine integrated into the design.

The Catch22 will also hold the bolt back on the last round with S&W magazines.

Awesome! I have both those products. Just haven't gotten any of the M&P mags yet. The catch 22 won't hold back the bolt on the last round with the CMMG mags.

And the Boonie Packer mag well adapter fits pretty snug in my lower but I got it in. Just need to stop in a store and hope they have some mags as most big online retailers are currently sold out!

Thanks guys and great build again. If I wasn't on the road from work I'd put up some pics of mine.

CMMG magazines lack the finger on which both the Catch22 and BMA depend for function.

The short ones can be harder to find.

Why won't the BMA work with TacSol uppers? I know I've seen an explanation before, but can't remember or find it now. I'm not having much luck at the moment with my Catch22 mag catch.
