A Handy Tip for 22/45 owners

I've got 4 mags for my Lite, 2 that came with it and 2 I bought on the 'Bay for $38.
I took all 4 apart for a cleaning, and decided when reassembling them that I wanted to distinguish between the originals and the newer ones. So, genius that I am, I decided that I would install their follower buttons on the right side of the new mags, not on the left as is ordinary. Went to the range and fired all 4 mags several times, the right sided ones would not lock the bolt open on the final round, every time. So, I went on Rf, and researched it, and it turns out the mags need the button on the left side to lock the bolt open. Live and learn, the mag springs were a real PITA to reinstall.

This was my solution to the problem. $1.99 for the set at Harbor Freight. I also have a vibrating tool and put my initials on the bottoms of all my mags. When I shoot with a friend we can have over a dozen magazines on the bench. Makes it easier to collect mine at the end of the day.

I number mine with a label maker I have used for years. I do it so if I have issues that may be mag related, I will know which one is the problem. It helped me weed out a problem on my Taurus TCP.

You could go so far as to paint in the Ruger logo on the underside of the mag base to distinguish. I actually did that on my Buckmark TK bases so I would remember the two that are good and two that suck.

Comical. I colored in the ruger logo on the bottom with a silver sharpie.
