Assuming v2 works well, how hard do you guys think it'll be to sell 6 of them? That's the minimum order quantity for the new tungsten piece I need. Bolts be new from S&P, plus tungsten, plus machine time, so I'm ballparking $150-$200.

I'm going to have a blind hole drilled in the front of the bolt, and a roll pin put in, to prevent any vertical movement in the firing pin. Any other suggestions like that? I don't want to radius them. I want to reduce bolt speed.

Would do 1 of the 6. $150 seems reasonable.

The v1 bolt ran good. I loaded one round and shot. No issues. Then I loaded two rounds of Hornady 17gr (three actually, but I only shot two) and it cycled fine. Then I made the below video.

I thought I filled the magazine, but turns out it was only nine shots. As you can see, it slow fired five shots with no issues, then fast fired the rest without a hiccup.

This is my custom bolt + stock ruger charging handle and spring + stock poly trigger.

I'm going to scope it and shoot groups with the three available types of current production Mach 2. Stay tuned.

This is with a 16-inch barrel of unknown origin. (Purchased locally, used, and not marked.) I have Lilja blank going to CPC to test this all out on good iron at 18-inches.

Shots are at 25 yards, 10-shot groups. Note the wicked keyholing with the 15.5gr NTX. I surmise this barrel is 1:10 or worse. Edit: I should note, nothing has been to accuratize this gun.

Mach 2 is baaack

My 10-22 modded to 17 mach 2 is one of my favorites. They are more accurate than my 17 hmr and 10-22's. I have a Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel that is a tack driver.

Those are great groups and your setup seems to function flawless. I wish that barrel shot the NTX better because I have to use non-lead in my state.

Great questions! It's throwing the shells at 3:30 to 4 o'clock. I shot some more this a.m. and really watched it. It's hucking those shells 7 or 8 feet. My KIDD spits 22 cases half that distance, a 2:30-3:00. I'm going to shoot some slow-mo video this weekend, so you should really be able to see it work soon.

Here are some photos of the brass, all of it well hit, the shells still all well formed. I did notice some vertical in the dented shells, but that will be corrected in the next version. The hits also looked much cleaner in the (softer?) Hornady brass.

Then I got thinking, what's a perfect Mach 2 strike look like? I wasn't sure, so I put some rounds from my Annie 1702 and my best 10/22 22lr (KIDD bolt and 1 lb. KIDD single stage trigger in Ruger receiver w/ 18-inch GM stainless barrel) for comparison:

Don't lose hope. This barrel I'm shooting is probably the wrong twist rate for the NTX. CCI told me 1:9 shoots everything best, including NTX. Some guys have detected keyholing with that setup, but at 200+ yards. At that distance, in my mind, it's theoretical. If it can remain stable hold group at 100-150, I'm happy.

I have a couple different barrels coming and will test this all out. I wouldn't rule it out yet.

I’ll be following your build. If the 1:9 twist barrel with NTX shoots 3/4”-1” groups at 50 yards than it will be good enough for my hunting.

I am having a similar issue with keyholing at 200 yards using the 17hm2 17gr ammo. Discouraging since it's accurate up to around 175 yards. I'm using a Green Mountain 1:9 twist.

I have a VQ bolt and barrel on my “10/17” and it shoots the NTX about the same as the regular 17 grain. I can get groups well under an inch at 50 yards with either type with no keyholing. When I do my part the groups are under 1/2 inch. It’s been a long time since I’ve shot on a regular basis and I’m not as consistent as I could/should be.

For what it’s worth my cases look fine with no bulging or splits at all.
