Shotgun from my youth

Log in to see fewer ads
Hello
I’m trying remember my first shotgun from my youth. I know it was a single shot .410. It opened with a lever on the back and cocked by a hammer. It was purchased new between 1964 - 1970. I’m sure it was a Savage Stevens brand just don’t remember the model. I’m looking for one in good condition is why I’m asking.
Thanks for any help.

Yeah, I was going to say a 94. Mine was a 20 ga. that got handed down to my brother. Nice guns, actually.

In my research I saw the model 94 but for some reason that number doesn’t ring a bell. I was hoping that there were others but I guess that has to be the one. That’s 50 years ago I had it so my memory sure can’t be trusted.
Thanks for all the help

I had a Savage single shot 410 break open shotgun but it didn't have the exposed hammer.

Still have it.

I had one just as described. I don't remember the model tho. Mine had a tendency to break firing pins when closing the breech unless I pointed the action up. Like it didn't have a firing pin spring.

Mine was a Mossberg 500 .410 when I was about 8 or 10 years old.

Iver Johnson made the Champion, but that was earlier.
In '72 there was the Stevens 94 and Winchester 370,
H&R Toppers had already got rid of levers and gone to push" button" for opening by then.

Here is a picture of my 1st shotgun, an early 1970's vintage Savage 94Y .Youth .410, beside a more modern H&R Pardner 12 gauge.
