My report on the Louisiana State smallbore and air rifle silhouette match.

Saturday was smallbore Standard and Hunter 60-shot matches.

Club match, NRA steel, meters
Date: 5-5-18
Anschutz 1710
Leupold Vari-X III / Premier boosted scope @ ~32X
SK Rifle Match

Match #1, Standard Rifle
Class: AA

Chickens - 10
Pigs - 10
Turkeys - 10
Rams - 7
TOTAL - 37/60 (24.6/40)

Managed 2nd place in AA.

Match #2, Hunter Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 11
Pigs - 8
Turkeys - 9
Rams - 9
TOTAL - 37/60 (24.6/40)

Again, 2nd place in AAA.

Sunday was air rifle, two 40-shot matches, pick one gun out of the three. I brought my TX200 and could have shot in either AAA class in Open or Master class in Sporter. I chose to run with the big dogs and shoot Sporter in Master class.

Club match, NRA steel resettables, yards
Date: 5-6-18
Class: Master
Air Arms TX200 Mk-III
Weaver V-24 @ 24X
Air Arms Field Heavy (10.34) pellets

Match #1:
Chickens - 7
Pigs - 9
Turkeys - 6
Rams - 6
TOTAL - 28

Match #2:
Chickens - 8
Pigs - 6
Turkeys - 3
Rams - 7
TOTAL - 24

Aggregate score of 52/80. Luckily for me all the other Master class shooters decided to shoot in either Open or Target so I ended up with the top Sporter score, making me the Louisiana state Sporter air rifle champion!

As the old saying goes, even a blind pig finds an acorn every once in a while.

Club match, NRA steel, meters
Date: 5-12-18
Anschutz 1710
Leupold Vari-X III / Premier boosted scope @ ~32X
SK Standard Plus

Match #1, Standard Rifle
Class: AA

Chickens - 6
Pigs - 8
Turkeys - 4
Rams - 4
TOTAL - 22

Match #2, Hunter Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 8
Pigs - 8
Turkeys - 6
Rams - 2
TOTAL - 24

Regular club match, but I was shepherding two young men and a Dad that came out to try out silhouette so I was a little distracted. Couldn't hit Rams at all on the second match. The backstops were painted a weird olive-gray so I couldn't see my misses to know where things were going.

I missed the last Pig by putting the shot right between the legs. (Sigh.)

Round #2, Open Rifle:

Weaver V-24 @ 24X
Air Arms Field Heavy (10.34) pellets

This beats my previous PR by one point!

Winds got all switchy and twitchy so there were many groans and expletives muttered this round, me included.

Finally, my third AAA score for Standard Rifle!

Class: AAA

Chickens - 6

If I hadn't botched my Chickens I could have had another 30.

It was hot and sticky but not much wind. My hold was better than usual and everything seemed to working really well for me. I've got the Texas state smallbore match coming up three weekends from now so I hope I can keep up my recent momentum.
