Ugh, this one hurts...

Club match, NRA steel, meters
Date: 3-10-18
Anschutz 1710
Leupold Vari-X III / Premier boosted scope @ ~24X
SK Standard Plus

Match #1, Standard Rifle
Class: AA

Chickens - 5
Pigs - 8
Turkeys - 4
Rams - 5
TOTAL - 22

Match #2, Hunter Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 5
Pigs - 7
Turkeys - 3
Rams - 3
TOTAL - 18

Nice day to shoot, good turnout, but I couldn't connect with anything other than Pigs. The fact that I haven't shot smallbore hardly at all in the last two and a half months really shows.

Next weekend is the Shamrock Silhouette Shootoff in Baton Rouge (air rifle silhouette) so I'll post some scores after I get back. I'm really looking forward to vindicating my performance from the problems at the Chicken Coop Shoot last month.

Here are my scores from the Shamrock Silhouette Shootoff, the air rifle silhouette regional in Baton Rouge. (All were 60-shot matches)

Round #1, Target:
Class: AAA
Anschutz 2002 SuperAir
JSB Diablo Exact RS (7.33) pellets
Weaver T-24

Chickens - 19
Pigs - 10
Turkeys - 8
Rams - 11
TOTAL - 38/60

I tied for first place and had to do a shoot-off on Turkeys. We both hit the first one, both missed the second one, and I clenched it on the third one.

Round #2, Open:
Class: AAA
Air Arms TX200 Mk-III
Weaver V-24 @ 24X
JSB Diablo Heavy (10.34) pellets

Chickens - 12
Pigs - 11
Turkeys - 12
Rams - 9
TOTAL - 44/60

I won first place by one hit.

Sunday, Round #3, Sporter:
Class: Master
TX200 again.

Chickens - 12
Pigs - 10
Turkeys - 6
Rams - 10
TOTAL - 38/60 (dead-last in Master)

Winds were swirling and switching on Sunday making for very tricky shooting. Everyone's scores were down, even the top three Master shooters only got a 49/60.

This was a very good match run by Dustin Flint and the Louisiana crew.

Back to a regular smallbore club match next weekend.

Almost as bad as earlier this month...

Club match, NRA steel, meters
Date: 3-24-18
Anschutz 1710
Leupold Vari-X III / Premier boosted scope @ ~24X
SK Standard Plus

Match #1, Standard Rifle
Class: AA

Chickens - 5
Pigs - 7
Turkeys - 6
Rams - 4
TOTAL - 22

Match #2, Hunter Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 9
Pigs - 5
Turkeys - 6
Rams - 4
TOTAL - 24

We had a 15-20 MPH headwind fighting us all morning long making for low scores across the board.

I'm still having a hard time converting a good hold into a hit down-range with my 22. I've discovered that if I hold my grip slightly angled forward more (less vertical, more angular) and imagine "pinching" between my trigger finger and thumb I can get more bullets on target. The funny thing is this approximates more closely the technique and angle at which I have to hold my TX200 (which I shoot better than my other rifles).

Six Turkeys proves you can hit the other animals, keep at it!

You out of the snow up there yet?

Snowfall here was weak this year. Snow-mobiliers got to ride for 3 days. Snow has been gone for a month.

200 miles north it is still winter. Lots of snow on the ground and maybe a foot more coming this weekend.
