Nice shooting all around Hawk!

Truth be told at this point I think the biggest difference in accuracy overall between you, me and Clem is that he is a better shot than we are.

I know that, and you know that, but don't tell Clem.
But I love the chase, and with Clem setting our goal's the sky is the limit.

Luck comes in packages that say 'lapua' on them. I haven't been very lucky lately.

Ammo is so important. Every barrel likes something different even down to lot # but that is not new to you guys. I write stuff like that because we know that for every one of us posting there are many more that just read this stuff and we have to look out for them too!

Anyway I am back from some "Sheet time" and still a little weak (maybe more than just a little). Was great to come back and find this. You guys are great.

The tru-ist definition of LUCK is...

When preparedness meets opportunity.

However, my favorite kind of luck is dumb, blind, random GOOD-luck!

There has been a few changes, since I started the build. So just to give the final result, I figured I would sum it up.

This is Lily Bell

Ruger receiver , target stock, trigger housing, and scope base.
GM 19" HT barrel.
Kidd buffer, threaded receiver pins, bolt, charging assembly, and trigger job kit.
Weaver V-16.
The action is bedded with Devcon, and has a rear hold down button.

After trying different things, this is what worked best in the barrel channel.
A Permatex pad at the tip. With 20 # takedown pressure.

She made the 1/4 " club with a .172 .
So I think from here on, its the ammo, and mostly me.

Many of our rifles have a forum life of years and continue to pop up in this game or that or some shooting story or another.

Is that Devcon on a piece of tape or RTV?

It's the Permatex over painters tape.

So far I have only been shooting Lily Belle at 25 yds. Trying different things to get the groups as small as I can, before moving out to 50 yds. She has already made the 1/4 Club, Cheap ammo, No Bull, and Tack Driver games in SuperStock at 25yds. But I would like to get an entry in the Zero, or 8 ball game, before moving out.

So I tried one more pad placement, that I hadn't tried yet. A 2" pad centered between the take down, and tip. Which is directly over where my front rest sits.
This is the best out of 6 targets that I shot, but they are all very consistent .

I getting a fair share of groups under .130.
Sometimes I am having trouble with the fine cross hair and dot of the V-16, on the center of the target that I'm using. It has a 1/8" center. I printed out 2 others that have a 1/4", and 5/16" center to try. I think that may shrink the groups a little more.

The last pad move made a slight improvement, but the barrel is up to around 6 or 7 hundred rounds now. So maybe it was the pad, or maybe the barrel is finding its groove. Whichever is fine with me. I'm happy with the GM HT barrel choice. It will shoot right on the tail of my Kidd 18" .920.

Nice! I am very happy with my GM 17" HT as well, not quite what my 16.5" kidd .920 does, but shoots VERY similar to my wifes 20" kidd .920

All my wood stocks.seem to,.work best with just a rubber pad at the tip.
I just Elmer's glue a piece of tractors inner tube on the tip.
Having said that.. I've got one factory carbine stock that didn't need anything. Works good with just the wooden factory bump.

Same here.
Not always at the tip, but a rubber support somewhere in the channel. Testing the placement is half of the fun for me.

That stock came off of a Factory Target model that turned into another gun. You know how that happens.

When I put it on this gun two years ago it was only going to be temporary, but it felt good, and has stayed put. Besides, If you have a spare stock hanging round, it's to much temptation.

By bringing back this thread you reminded me that I haven't got Lily Belle out for at least a year. A few other guns have found their way home, and she got pushed aside. The weather is going to start getting better, and I think she'll get some time in the sun this year.

I should refresh my memory..
Not all my wood stocks work best with a inner tube at the tip..
Some do just fine with the factory wooden bump.
Old ugly.. the carbine.is one of the few that needs nothing.
My LVT clone is another..
I think that's what I love about 10/22s. Ya never know what they're gonna do.
